Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Wind-Tunnel Investigation of the Aerodynamic Performance of Surface-Modification Cables

open access: yesEngineering, 2017
The wind-induced vibration of stay cables of cable-stayed bridges, which includes rain-wind-induced vibration (RWIV) and dry galloping (DG), has been studied for a considerable amount of time.

Use of dietary frass from black soldier fly larvae, Hermetia illucens, in hybrid tilapia (Nile x Mozambique, Oreocromis niloticus x O. mozambique) diets improves growth and resistance to bacterial diseases

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2020
Frass, a by-product of the larval meal industry, is heterogeneous and includes larval excrement, exoskeleton sheds and residual feed ingredients along with abundant nutrients, chitin and beneficial microbes.

Influence of Wire Geometry on the Mechanical Behavior of the TiNi Design

open access: yesMetals, 2022
The present article is aimed at studying the deformation behavior of TiNi wire and knitted metal TiNi mesh under uniaxial tension and revealing the role of wire geometry on their main mechanical characteristics and mechanisms of deformation behavior. The

Wire stripper [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
An insulation stripper is described which is especially useful for shielded wire, the stripper including a first pair of jaws with blades extending substantially perpendicular to the axis of the wire, and a second pair of jaws with blades extending ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

The Effects of Spermidine on Functional and Transcriptomic Markers in Human Primary Keratinocytes

open access: yesPhysiologia
Recent enthusiasm has surrounded the homeostatic roles that polyamines have in a variety of cell types. Thus, the purpose of this exploratory in vitro study was to determine how spermidine (SPD), a polyamine commonly consumed as a nutritional supplement,

MRI of Paraspinal Gossypiboma: Look for the Barium Sulfate Filament

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2023
Gossypiboma is a rare post-surgical complication comprising a retained surgical gauze surrounded by a foreign body reaction. Although usually presenting on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with low T1 signal, high central and low peripheral signal on T2,

Peierls Instability and Electron-Phonon Coupling in a One-dimensional Sodium Wire

open access: yes, 2006
We have studied Peierls instability in an atomically thin wire of sodium atoms using first-principles density-functional methods. A Na wire has a stable uniform linear structure over a range of inter-atomic distances. At smaller inter-atomic distances it

Guiding Neutral Atoms with a Wire [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We demonstrate guiding of cold neutral atoms along a current carrying wire. Atoms either move in Kepler-like orbits around the wire or are guided in a potential tube on the side of the wire which is created by applying an additional homogeneous bias ...
