Study of Fine-Finish Wire EDM

open access: yesJournal of The Japan Society of Electrical Machining Engineers, 2011
In this paper, methods of obtaining fine-finish surfaces in wire electrical discharge machining are discussed. Some countermeasures to reduce the stray capacitance of wire EDM, which restricts the surface roughness on an EDMed surface, are described. A surface roughness of 0.6[μm] Rz is obtained using a 0.1[μs] pulse width group type AC pulse generator.

Prediction and optimization of surface quality and material removal rate in wire-EDM cutting of tungsten–copper alloy (W70Cu30)

open access: yesResults in Surfaces and Interfaces
Tungsten-copper alloy (W70Cu30) is widely used in industrial applications due to its high thermal conductivity, melting point, and wear resistance. This study investigates its machinability using wire electrical discharge machining (EDM).

Dry sliding friction and wear response of WC-Co hardmetal pairs in linearly reciprocating and rotating contact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents an experimental evaluation of friction and wear properties of WC-Co cemented carbides. A comparison is made between unlubricated rotating and linearly reciprocating pin-onplate sliding pairs. The plate specimens were WC-10wt%Co grades

Practical Issues in the Application of Direct Metal Laser Sintering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) was introduced to meet the objective of producing metal parts directly from CAD data. CRDM has accumulated six years of experience in applying this technique, mostly to prototyping parts for evaluation.

Influence of the Cr to Ti Ratio on the High‐Temperature Oxidation Behavior of TaMoCrTiAl Complex Concentrated Alloys in Nitrogen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 77, Issue 3, Page 442-452, March 2026.
Ta‐Mo‐Cr‐Ti‐Al refractory high‐entropy alloys show atmosphere‐dependent oxidation performance based on Cr:Ti ratios. Cr‐rich compositions excel in dry oxygen through continuous chromia formation, while Ti‐rich alloys perform better in humid conditions due to reduced chromium volatilization and hydrogen uptake effects.

Surface and subsurface characteristics of wire-electrical discharge machined Al-alloy and composite: a fundamental study on the role of machining variables

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
For hard-to-machine materials like discontinuous particulate reinforced Al-matrix composites, wire-electrical discharge machining (wire-EDM) is increasingly preferred for manufacturing intricately shaped parts with high dimensional accuracies and surface

Guidelines to select suitable parameters for contour method stress measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The contour method is one of the promising techniques for the measurement of residual stresses in engineering components. In this method, the cut surfaces deform, owing to the relaxation of residual stresses.
