Viscous Withdrawal of Miscible Liquid Layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In viscous withdrawal, a converging flow imposed in an upper layer of viscous liquid entrains liquid from a lower, stably stratified layer. Using the idea that a thin tendril is entrained by a local straining flow, we propose a scaling law for the volume flux of liquid entrained from miscible liquid layers.

Value withdrawal explanations: a theoretical tool for programming environments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2002
Constraint logic programming combines declarativity and efficiency thanks to constraint solvers implemented for specific domains. Value withdrawal explanations have been efficiently used in several constraints programming environments but there does not exist any formalization of them. This paper is an attempt to fill this lack.
