Extractive Content and Colour Properties of 11-Year-Old Superior Teak Wood [PDF]

open access: yesWood Research Journal, 2021
There is a lack of understanding about the properties of Fast-growing teak trees harvested in young stage. Superior teak woods (11 years, 5 trees) grown in Pemalang FMU were assessed in vertical and radial positions for its extractive contents and colour

Dimensional stability and colour responses of Pinus elliottii wood subjected to furfurylation treatments

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2020
Organic substances have been used for different wood treatments, especially impregnation procedures, aiming to improve certain wood properties. The objective of this study was to evaluate dimensional stability and colorimetric features for a mature pine

Colour Change of Steamed Alder Wood Caused by UV Radiation

open access: yesDrvna Industrija, 2022
Alder wood (Alnus glutinosa L.) was steamed with a saturated steam-air mixture at a temperature of t = 95 °C, or saturated steam at t = 115 °C and t = 135 °C to obtain a pale brown colour, a light red-brown colour and a dark brown-grey colour ...

Colour polymorphism associated with a gene duplication in male wood tiger moths

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2023
Colour is often used as an aposematic warning signal, with predator learning expected to lead to a single colour pattern within a population. However, there are many puzzling cases where aposematic signals are also polymorphic.

Wood Surface Finishing with Transparent Lacquers Intended for Indoor Use, and the Colour Resistance of These Surfaces during Accelerated Aging

open access: yesPolymers, 2023
This work evaluates the effects of accelerated aging on the discolouration of surface-treated spruce wood and oak wood coated with solvent-based polyurethane lacquers, and surface-treated spruce wood coated with water-based transparent coating systems ...

Colour modification of poplar wood by steaming for brown colour [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2019
The colour change of poplar was evaluated after exposure to a wide range of steaming parameters (90–110 °C, 1–20 days) for getting brown colour for indoor applications. The generated brown colour was homogeneous throughout the whole cross section. The colour saturation can be doubled by steaming.

Effect of applied standard wood machining fluid on colour and chemical composition of the machined wood surface

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2023
Appropriate monitoring of wood machining processes is a key issue to ensure the expected quality of the processed wood, expected efficiency and minimize energy consumption of production processes.

Colour and Surface Chemistry Changes of Wood Surfaces Coated with Two Types of Waxes after Seven Years Exposure to Natural Light in Indoor Conditions

open access: yesCoatings, 2022
The ageing of materials is an irreversible, in-time occurring complex phenomenon, which affects both wood surfaces and the coating materials. This paper focuses on the light-induced natural ageing of wood-coated surfaces in indoor conditions.

Antioxidant properties of wood extracts and colour stability of woods [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Science, 2006
Industrial wood extracts were selected and other extracts were prepared in the laboratory from some chosen wood species. Antioxidant capacities of extracts were measured by three methods: the oxygen uptake method, the kinetic DPPH method, and the equilibrium DPPH method. There is a fair correlation between the three methods.
