Infrared thermography for wood density estimation [PDF]
Abstract Infrared thermography (IRT) is becoming a commonly used technique to non-destructively inspect and evaluate wood structures. Based on the radiation emitted by all objects, this technique enables the remote visualization of the surface temperature without making contact using a thermographic device.

Heat-Treated Wood Reinforced High Density Polyethylene Composites
This study investigated the effect of untreated and heat-treated ash and black pine wood flour concentrations on the selected properties of high density polyethylene (HDPE) composites. HDPE and wood flour were used as thermoplastic matrix and filler, respectively.

Discovery and Targeted Proteomic Studies Reveal Striatal Markers Validated for Huntington's Disease
ABSTRACT Objective Clinical trials for Huntington's disease (HD) enrolling persons before clinical motor diagnosis (CMD) lack validated biomarkers. This study aimed to conduct an unbiased discovery analysis and a targeted examination of proteomic biomarkers scrutinized by clinical validation. Methods Cerebrospinal fluid was obtained from PREDICT‐HD and

Comparative study on overall, surface and centre compressed solid wood
For more efficient utilisation of low-density solid wood, this study used white poplar (Populus tomentosa) solid wood as the material. Surface, centre, and overall compressed solid wood were subsequently obtained, and a comparative analysis was conducted

A non-destructive field method for measuring wood density of decaying logs
Decaying dead wood density measurements are a useful indicator for multiple purposes, such as for estimating the amount of carbon in dead wood and making predictions of potential diversity of dead wood inhabiting fungi and insects.

Why wood density varies across communities [PDF]
AbstractCommunities are the emergent outcome of individual‐level trait–environment interactions. In this issue of the Journal of Vegetation Science, Ibanez et al. utilize an impressive data set from New Caledonia to demonstrate how the interaction of climatic axes drives the distribution and diversity of wood density in tree communities.

Shared Genetic Effects and Antagonistic Pleiotropy Between Multiple Sclerosis and Common Cancers
ABSTRACT Objective Epidemiologic studies have reported inconsistent altered cancer risk in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Factors such as immune dysregulation, comorbidities, and disease‐modifying therapies may contribute to this variability.

An assessment of the remodelling of bifurcations in hazel (Corylus avellana L.) in response to bracing, drilling and splitting [PDF]
This paper provides an insight into the ability of bifurcations in hazel trees to remodel themselves after bracing, drilling and splitting. The study uses evidence from field observations and testing the strength of these bifurcations using a universal ...
