Does instrumentation and irrigation configuration affect intrarenal pressure during PCNL? [PDF]
Abstract Objectives To measure the effects of varying configurations of nephroscope sheath, irrigation, instruments, and suction on intrarenal pressure (IRP) during percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Materials and Methods Kidney and ureter 3D printed models from a deidentified patient's CT scan were placed in a plaster and foam mould, simulating the ...

Effect of laboratory heat stress on mortality and web mass of the common house spider, Parasteatoda tepidariorum (Koch 1841) (Araneae: Theridiidae) [PDF]
We determined the effects of chronic heat stress on web construction of Parasteatoda tepidariorum (Araneae: Theridiidae) by measuring the survival and web mass of specimens after a 48-h period within a temperature chamber at 21, 30, 35, 40, or 50°C.

Experimental evaluation of dowel-type timber joints with wooden dowels
Dowel-type timber joints made of wood are of particular interest for interventions on built heritage because such heritage buildings often involve timber structures. Wooden dowels offer a lower cost when compared with other connectors and conform to the tendency for using wood-based solutions to retrofit timber structures.

Legged Locomotion in Lattices: Centipede Traversal of Obstacle-Rich Environments. [PDF]
We investigated how centipedes adapted their limb stepping and body bending patterns in a dense array of rigid obstacles (vertical posts). Centipedes maintained a rapid speed in the obstacle array by adapting their gaits in several ways, including adducing their limbs along their bodies to mitigate collisions, twisting their bodies into more favorable ...

New Techniques for Associating the Stages of Aquatic Insects [PDF]
(excerpt) The immature forms of many benthic insect species are presently either undescribed or unidentifiable. The result is that associations with corresponding adult forms are often necessary in order to confirm specific and sometimes generic ...

Endurance of the wooden bridge reinforced by the dowel plates [PDF]
Abstract The most important piece of road infrastructure is bridges. Wooden bridges have advanced constantly during the past decades. The trend began in Scandinavian countries but has also now gained significant ground in Russia. This research studies experimental endurance potential of the joints of the wooden beam while considering ...

Investigation of Welded Joints with Linear Turned Beech Elements [PDF]
Welding of wood is a process where chemical and physical reactions take place, heat isformed during the friction, which melts and softens the structure of wood, and a firm joint is formedby cooling of the melt. The paper discusses the present knowledge ...

Investigating the effect of diameter and dowel surface in softwood joints, made by welding and glue [PDF]
Joints in furniture and wooden structures due to the highly sensitive bearing load are today one of the most important scientific topics. The most recent method proposed to build wooden joints in Europe and the United States is a method eco-friendly ...
