Journal of Anatomy, EarlyView.Graviportal proboscideans differ in limb morphology, adopting slender or more robust long bone morphotypes. Finite element analyses (FEA) on extant and extinct taxa reveal functional differences between morphotypes, with robust humeri exhibiting lower peak stress under neutral and off‐axis loading.
