Modelling oxidation of hot rolling work rolls
Ironmaking & Steelmaking, 2001A mathematical model was developed to compute the growth of the oxide layer found on the surface of hot rolling work rolls. The model considers that the rolls are installed in a continuous hot strip mill, and that their surface is subjected to the thermal cycling that results from contact with the steel being rolled and from the water delivered from ...

MODELLING WORK-ROLL TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS IN HOT STRIP ROLLING
International Journal of Modelling and Simulation, 2004AbstractPrediction of temperature distribution within work-rolls during the hot strip rolling process is of great importance to mill designers because of the significant role it plays in the product's dimensional accuracy and roll life. The present article employs the unsteady state heat transfer equation with time-dependent boundary conditions, as ...

A design of a SmartCrown work roll profile
Proceedings of 2011 International Conference on Electronic & Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology, 2011SmartCrown system is an effective method for controlling the flatness and profile of strip. The key issue in the SmartCrown system is the design of the roll profile. In this paper, a design method of SmartCrown roll profile is obtained The crown ratio is considered as the criteria of design firstly to control higher-order buckle.

Modelling heat transfer in hot rolling work rolls
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1999Abstract Work rolls in a hot rolling mill are subjected to successive heating and cooling cycles, with the net result of a positive heat influx. This sort of heating might cause damage, as well as shape defects in the rolled strips, so it is therefore necessary to know how the temperature of the rolls increases.

An Investigation of the Effect of Speeds of Work Rolls on Rolling Strip
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 1995The paper is an investigation of strip curvature caused by the different speeds between the upper work roll and the lower work roll in the rolling process for an aluminum strip. At the same time, we analyzed the variations in the temperature field and strain field, and used a method of speeds variation of the upper and lower work rolls to calibrate the

A Study on Corrosion Wear of Cold Rolling Work Roll
Advanced Materials Research, 2013The MMS-2B wear machine was used to study abrasion wear of work rolls in cold rolling by simulating emulsion cooling during the cold rolling process. The work roll materials used were 4%Cr, same as those in industrial production. The surface SEM scanning photographs were taken every 30 minutes until the friction experiment finished, and erosive ...

Effective cooling of work rolls in strip rolling
Materials Science and Technology, 1988AbstractAn examination has been made of the effectiveness of roll cooling as applied to strip rolling, taking into account practical considerations such as the spray location and positioning, coolant flowrate, and rolling temperature. It is indicated by the results that, for cold rolling, the most effective cooling can be achieved by commencing spray ...

Work of deformation in screw rolling
Steel in Translation, 2013A method is proposed for determining the unit work of deformation in the broaching of blanks in two-roller screw-rolling mills. A new approach is outlined for assessing the fracture risk and the structure of continuous-cast circular billet. Methods for determining the work of deformation in different sections of the deformation zone are considered. The

A new technique is proposed to determine the specific volume work of deformation during screw rolling. Methods for determining the work of deformation in various sections of the deformation zone in a piercing mill are considered. The dependence of the work of deformation on the reduction in the deformation zone is obtained.

A new procedure to assess the hot rolling work roll materials
Revue de Métallurgie, 2007CRM developed a new cost effective procedure to have a more accurate assessment of roll performance related to oxide formation, friction level and wear for hot rolling. The procedure consists of inserting different work roll materials in pilot work rolls to perform specific continuous pilot hot rolling campaigns with a detailed analysis.
