Atmospheric compensation for WorldView-2 satellite and in-water component retrieval
SPIE Proceedings, 2012In the present work, the WorldView-2 (WV2) capability for retrieving Case 2 water components is analyzed. In the Case 2 water problem, the sensor-reaching signal due to water is very small when compared to the signal due to the atmospheric effects. Therefore, adequate atmospheric compensation becomes an important first step to accurately retrieve water

Mapping ash trees from WorldView-2 and 3 data
2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017This project was motivated by the threat caused by the emerald ash borer, which is spreading across several regions in North America. Mapping of ash trees is an important step in the preparation for a possible infestation of this frightening insect pest, which can destroy endemic ash stands.

Experiment on extracting forest canopy height from Worldview-2
2011 Eighth International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and Knowledge Discovery (FSKD), 2011Taking advantage of rational polynomial coefficient (RPC) data delivered along with the very high resolution satellite (VHRS) Worldview-2 images, we proposed an easy RPC adjustment method for the commercial software ENVI to generate digital surface model (DSM) with only one ground control point (GCP). The DSM was then used to derive canopy crown height

An effective pansharpening method for WorldView-2 satellite images
2015 International Conference on Estimation, Detection and Information Fusion (ICEDIF), 2015Pansharpening has been an important tool in remote sensing applications, which transforms a set of low-spatial-resolution multispectral images to high-spatial-resolution images by fusing a co-registered fine-spatial-resolution panchromatic image. The new style very high-resolution WorldView-2 satellite images have posed challenges to the image fusion ...

Pansharpening in coastal ecosystems using Worldview-2 imagery
SPIE Proceedings, 2016Both climate change and anthropogenic pressure impacts are producing a declining in ecosystem natural resources. In this work, a vulnerable coastal ecosystem, Maspalomas Natural Reserve (Canary Islands, Spain), is analyzed. The development of advanced image processing techniques, applied to new satellites with very high resolution sensors (VHR), are ...

Using WorldView-2 to determine bottom-type and bathymetry
SPIE Proceedings, 2011Observations taken from DigitalGlobe's WorldView-2 (WV-2) sensor were analyzed for bottom-type and bathymetry for data taken at Guam and Tinian in late February and early March of 2010. Classification of bottom type was done using supervised and unsupervised classification techniques. All eight of the multispectral bands were used.

Determination of tree species using Worldview-2 data
2012 IEEE 8th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications, 2012Determining tree species has involved a lot of studies in the past decades. This is because of the availability of certain tree species to produce a high market value type of wood or that it can be use for meditational purposes. In the old days, conventional method of survey needs to be conducted to identify tree species.

Assessment of pan-sharpening methods applied to WorldView-2 image fusion
2015 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2015Various multispectral (MS) and panchromatic (PAN) fusion (or pan-sharpening) algorithms were developed to produce an enhanced MS image of high spatial resolution. Regarding the novelty in both the PAN and MS bands of the WV-2 imagery, the objective of this study is to assess the performance of nine state-of-the-art pan-sharpening methods for the WV-2 ...

Evaluation of soil moisture content from ASTER and Worldview 2 imageries
2014 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2014The traditional approach of soil mapping is time consuming and requires large amount of investments, especially for large scale areas, whereas the reflectance spectrometry for assessing the spectral behavior of soil has been an alternative [13]. This study aims to predict the moisture level in soil and significant wavelengths pointing the moisture ...
