Bioinspired Multiscale Wrinkling Patterns on Curved Substrates: An Overview
The surface wrinkling of biological tissues is ubiquitous in nature. Accumulating evidence suggests that the mechanical force plays a significant role in shaping the biological morphologies.

Wrinkling and folding are crucial morphological and structural motifs in polymeric sheet materials. In this study, a simultaneous-mechanical test method was proposed to evaluate the wrinkling behaviour by simply constructing the folding deformations of ...

Structural Analysis of Thin Film with Applied Pre-Strain in Substrate [PDF]
Stretchability enables the device to be patched to a curved surface or to be folded several times to maximize usability. Among many methods, the pre-strain method is advantageous in that the stretchability as much as the pre-strain applied to the ...

We prove theoretically that when a soft solid is subjected to an extreme deformation, wrinkles can form on its surface at an angle that is oblique to a principal direction of stretch. These oblique wrinkles occur for a strain that is smaller than the one required to obtain wrinkles normal to the direction of greatest compression.

Flange Wrinkling in Deep-Drawing: Experiments, Simulations and a Reduced-Order Model
Flange wrinkling is often seen in deep-drawing process when the applied blankholding force is too small. This paper investigates the plastic wrinkling of flange under a constant blankholding force.

The B form of poly d(GC):poly d(GC) in orthorhombic microcrystallites in oriented fibers has a secondary structure in which a dinucleotide is the repeated motif rather than a mononucleotide as in standard, smooth B DNA. One set of nucleotides (probably GpC) has the same conformations as the smooth form but the alternate (CpG) nucleotides have a ...

All-Polymer Printed Low-Cost Regenerative Nerve Cuff Electrodes
Neural regeneration after lesions is still limited by several factors and new technologies are developed to address this issue. Here, we present and test in animal models a new regenerative nerve cuff electrode (RnCE).

Investigation of Wrinkling Initiation in Shear Spinning [PDF]
Metal spinning is a flexible and net-shape sheet forming process however its process development still heavily relies on empirical knowledge to determine process parameters to avoid processing failures, such as wrinkling.
