Methods for writer identification

Proceedings of Third International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems, 2002
Relatively simple methods for writer identification are presented in this work. The problems related to image acquisition, image preprocessing, feature selection and extraction as well as clustering and identification are analyzed. A couple of features is proposed towards a better discrimination result.

Automatic Identification of Writers

1988
Using handwriting as a means of input to a computer has several advantages, currently not appreciated sufficiently. The use of pen (and paper) gives the user the opportunity of providing the computer with textual and graphic information in a “natural” fashion and it is expected that the keyboard will continue to be an obstacle for large-scale human ...

Writer Identification in Handwritten Documents

Ninth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR 2007), 2007
This work presents an effective method for writer identification in handwritten documents. We have developed a local approach, based on the extraction of characteristics that are specific to a writer. To exploit the existence of redundant patterns within a handwriting, the writing is divided into a large number of small sub-images, and the sub-images ...

Writer Retrieval and Writer Identification Using Local Features

2012 10th IAPR International Workshop on Document Analysis Systems, 2012
Writer identification determines the writer of one document among a number of known writers where at least one sample is known. Writer retrieval searches all documents of one particular writer by creating a ranking of the similarity of the handwriting in a dataset.

Morphological waveform coding for writer identification

open access: yesPattern Recognition, 2000
Abstract Writer identification is carried out using handwritten text. The feature vector is derived by means of morphologically processing the horizontal profiles (projection functions) of the words. The projections are derived and processed in segments in order to increase the discrimination efficiency of the feature vector.

ICDAR 2013 Competition on Writer Identification

2013 12th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2013
Writer identification is important for forensic analysis, helping experts to deliberate on the authenticity of documents. The ICDAR2013 Competition on Writer Identification is part of a competition series (see also ICDAR2011 and ICFHR2012 Writer Identification Contests) which is dedicated to record recent advances in the field of writer identification ...

Knowledge Transfer for Writer Identification

2018
The technical literature on writer identification usually considers the best case scenario in terms of data availability, i.e., a database composed of hundreds of writers with several documents per writer is available to train the machine learning models. However, in real-life problems such a database may not be available.

ICDAR 2011 Writer Identification Contest

2011 International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2011
ICDAR 2011 Writer Identification Contest is the first contest which is dedicated to record recent advances in the field of writer identification using established evaluation performance measures. The benchmarking dataset of the contest was created with the help of 26 writers that were asked to copy eight pages that contain text in several languages ...

Writer Identification for Handwritten Words

2017
In this work we present a framework for recognizing writer for a handwritten word. We make use of allographic features at sub-word level. Our work is motivated by previous techniques which make use of a codebook. However, instead of encoding the features using the codewords, we exploit the discriminative properties of features that belong to the same ...

Advances in Writer Identification and Verification

Ninth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR 2007) Vol 2, 2007
The behavioral-biometrics methods of writer identification and verification are currently enjoying renewed interest, with very promising results. This paper presents a general background and basis for handwriting biometrics. A range of current methods and applications is given.
