Author identification using writer-dependent and writer-independent strategies

Proceedings of the 2008 ACM symposium on Applied computing, 2008
In this work we discuss author identification for documents written in Portuguese. Two different approaches were compared. The first is the writer-independent model which reduces the pattern recognition problem to a single model and two classes, hence, makes it possible to build robust system even when few genuine samples per writer are available.

On writer identification for Arabic historical manuscripts

International Journal on Document Analysis and Recognition (IJDAR), 2017
This paper introduces new methodologies for reliably identifying writers of Arabic historical manuscripts. We propose an approach that transforms key point-based features, such as SIFT, into a global form that captures high-level characteristics of writing styles.

Writer identification

The Impact of Ruling Lines on Writer Identification

2010 12th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2010
Paper often includes pre-printed ruling lines to help people write more neatly. This particular example of real- world noise can have a serious impact on applications such as handwriting recognition and writer identification, however. In this work, we investigate the effects of ruling lines on writer ID.

Writer identification on historical Glagolitic documents

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
This work aims at automatically identifying scribes of historical Slavonic manuscripts. The quality of the ancient documents is partially degraded by faded-out ink or varying background. The writer identification method used is based on image features, which are described with Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) features. A visual vocabulary is

Information retrieval based writer identification

Seventh International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2003. Proceedings., 2005
This communication deals with the Writer Identificationtask. Our previous work has shown the interest of usingthe graphemes as features for describing the individualproperties of Handwriting. We propose here to exploit thesame feature set but using an information retrievalparadigm to describe and compare the handwritten queryto each sample of ...

Feature relevance analysis for writer identification

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
This work presents an analytical study on the relevance of features in an existing framework for writer identification from offline handwritten document images. The identification system comprises a set of 15 features combining the orientation and curvature information in a writing with the well-known codebook based approach.

A Contourlet-based Method for Writer Identification

2005 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 2006
Handwriting-based writer identification is a hot research topic in the field of pattern recognition. Typically, there are four modes of writer identification: on-line text-dependent, on-line text-independent, off-line text-dependent, off-line text-independent; and off-line text-independent is the most challenging problem among them because many ...

Offline handwriting segmentation for writer identification

2014 International Symposium on Biometrics and Security Technologies (ISBAST), 2014
In this paper we present a new technique for off-line text-independent handwriting analysis based on segmentation. Segmentation is a common step used in different research works in order to generate connected components that will be processed to extract features (geometry, concavity etc.).

Mining generalized features for writer identification

2009 2nd Conference on Data Mining and Optimization, 2009
This paper proposes generalized features of various handwriting in forensic documents for writer identification. In forensic documents, graphologies need to scrutinize, analyze and evaluate the features of suspected authors from questioned handwriting and compared these documents with the original handwriting. This is due to the uniqueness of the shape
