DNA ligase LigE increases bacterial transformation with damaged extracellular DNA

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The DNA ligase LigE from the naturally competent Gram‐negative bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoaea increases transformation with cut extracellular DNA. This process is ATP‐dependent and relies on the catalytic activity of LigE; it also requires that LigE contains an intact periplasmic localisation sequence, indicating that ligE functions in the periplasm ...

Two-Variable Parity Polynomial for Virtual Knotoids

open access: yesMathematics
In this paper, we introduce a two-variable parity polynomial invariant for virtual knotoids, defined on oriented virtual knotoid diagrams. The construction is based on the parity of classical crossings, where each crossing is classified as even or odd ...

Soft motions encoded by the fold and mediated by conserved hinge sites drive V‐ATPase allosteric machinery and autoinhibition

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacuolar H+‐ATPase (V‐ATPase) is a multisubunit rotary proton pump that acidifies intracellular compartments. Using elastic network models, we identified conserved hinge residues that govern its large‐scale functional motions. We show that intrinsically encoded ‘soft modes’ drive critical functional transitions, including rotary catalysis and ...

Antinociceptive Effect of Ondansetron in Albino Mice Using Acetic Acid Induced Writhing Model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University, 2016
Background: Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience. Pain is a protective mechanism. Pain occurs whenever any tissues are being damaged, and it causes the individual to react and to remove the pain stimulus. Aim and Objectives: To evaluate

Effects of Green Brazilian Propolis Alcohol Extract on Nociceptive Pain Models in Rats

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Pain is one of the most common symptoms encountered in the medical practice. None of the management procedures used currently offer a complete relief for patients suffering from nociceptive pain.

Comparing the paths of Hedgehog release in artificial and natural settings

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hh morphogens require solubilization factors to overcome their tight association with the plasma membrane and signal to distant cells, but the precise functions of these factors are controversial. Here, we use published in vivo observations as the most relevant evidence to test their suggested functions and discuss contradictions and gaps between in ...

The Formation of a Bulge at the Front of Solar Coronal Mass Ejections

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are associated with eruptions of magnetic flux ropes (MFRs). Recent studies have proposed a new explanation on the nature of the three-part structure of CMEs, in which the front results from plasma pileup along the overlying

A filament wrapped around its reconnection-heated component: An erupting hot channel

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Aims. Solar hot channels (HCs) are coherently elongated high-temperature structures observed in the solar corona, and they are believed to represent magnetic flux ropes during solar eruptions.

Antinociceptive Effect of Hydantoin 3-Phenyl-5-(4-ethylphenyl)-imidazolidine-2,4-dione in Mice

open access: yesMolecules, 2015
Imidazolidine derivatives, or hydantoins, are synthetic compounds with different therapeutic applications. Many imidazolidine derivatives have psychopharmacological properties, such as phenytoin, famous for its anticonvulsant efficacy, but also effective

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).
