Synergistic effect of 17-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin with dehydroxymethylepoxyquinomicin on the human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cell line KTC2 [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2021
The use of targeted inhibitors has shown promise as an effective approach in cancer therapy. However, targeted therapies based only on one drug, such as 17-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin (17-AAG), have limited success, partly because cancer cells ...

ANTP-SMACN7 fusion peptide alone induced high linear energy transfer irradiation radiosensitization in non-small cell lung cancer cell lines

open access: yesCancer Biology & Medicine, 2022
Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the mechanisms responsible for the radiation-sensitizing effect of antennapedia proteins, ANTP-SMACN7, on lung cancer cells treated with accelerated carbon and Fe particle irradiation.

Endoscopic balloon dilations for strictures of rectum, ileocecal valve and duodenum in a patient with X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis deficiency: a case report [PDF]

open access: yesIntestinal Research, 2022
X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) deficiency is a rare primary immunodeficiency and gastrointestinal (GI) lesions in XIAP deficiency are similar to Crohn’s disease.

Delivery of sTRAIL variants by MSCs in combination with cytotoxic drug treatment leads to p53-independent enhanced antitumor effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are able to infiltrate tumor tissues and thereby effectively deliver gene therapeutic payloads. Here, we engineered murine MSCs (mMSCs) to express a secreted form of the TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), which ...

A Boy with X-Linked Inhibitor of Apoptosis Protein (XIAP) Deficiency as the Initial Presentation of Pure Red Cell Aplasia

open access: yesClinical Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, 2021
X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) deficiency is a rare immunodeficiency disorder. A 13-month-old boy was diagnosed with pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) and treated with steroid and cyclosporine.

The X-Linked Inhibitor of Apoptosis Protein Enhances Survival of Murine Islet Allografts [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes, 2005
Allotransplantation of pancreatic islets represents a promising approach to treat type 1 diabetes. Destruction of β-cells in islet allografts involves multiple immune mechanisms that lead to activation of caspases and apoptotic cell death. The X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) inhibits apoptosis induced by a variety of triggers, primarily by ...

GSK3-beta as a candidate therapeutic target in soft tissue sarcomas

open access: yesJournal of Hematology & Oncology, 2021
Soft tissue sarcoma (STS) is a predominantly fatal rare malignancy with inadequate treatment options. Glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK-3β) is an emerging target in human malignancies. Its therapeutic relevance in STS is unknown.

Novel X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein inhibitors as probes of apoptosis in biology and medicine

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 2011
We report here a series of new inhibitors of the X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP protein) based on the SMAC-tetrapeptide AVPI. The structural novelty of these molecules is the presence of the proline mimetic exo-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-3-carboxylic acid, leading to analogs with similar activity to the natural ligand peptide.

How to target apoptosis signaling pathways for the treatment of pediatric cancers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Apoptosis represents one of the most important forms of cell death in higher organisms and is typically dysregulated in human cancers, including pediatric tumors.

XIAP 3′-untranslated region serves as a competitor for HMGA2 by arresting endogenous let-7a-5p in human hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2017
X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein functions as an intrinsic regulator of apoptosis by inhibition of caspase activity and possesses a pivotal role in human cancer development and progression.
