On Oxalyl Halide Isothiocyanates Part II: Decarbonylation and Reactivity Studies

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Thermal decarbonylation of oxalyl halide isothiocyanates affords the respective carbonyl halide isothiocyanates as liquids. Crystals grown from melt allowed the elucidation of their crystal structures. Spectroscopic signatures (IR, Raman, NMR) are presented alongside reactivity studies. The reaction of oxalyl halide isothiocyanate, X(CO)2NCS (X = Cl (1)

Dilithium Enediamide Derived From a 1,4‐Diaza‐1,3‐diene: Reactivity of a Strongly N‐Basic, Highly C‐Nucleophilic Compound Toward C–H Acids

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, EarlyView.
The lithium enediamide complex 2 with intrinsically inverted C–N bond polarity combines strong basicity with unusual reactivity: deprotonation of malonates enables C–C bond formation without electron transfer. Depending on malonate substitution, electrophilic substitution or addition occurs at the enediamide CC bond.

On the Planarity of Heterocyclic Bay‐Substituted Perylenediimides: Insight into the Fluorescent Photoinduced Electron Transfer Sensing Framework

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Near‐infrared fluorescent pH indicators based on perylenediimide were constructed in a modular receptor–spacer–fluorophore–spacer–receptor format with heterocyclic amino moieties at the bay positions. Counterintuitively, the dibrominated intermediate with two heavy atoms is more emissive than the heterocyclic compounds.
