Characterization by X ray diffraction of mechanically alloyed tripotassium sodium sulfate

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2006
Nanocrystalline powder of tripotassium sodium sulfate (K3Na(SO4)2 - KNS) was successfully obtained by mechanical alloying a mixture of potassium sulfate (K2SO4) and sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) with a proportion of 3:1 in a planetary mill.

Characterization of highly-oriented ferroelectric Pb_xBa_(1-x)TiO_3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Pb_xBa_(1-x)TiO_3 (0.2 ≾ x ≾ 1) thin films were deposited on single-crystal MgO as well as amorphous Si_3N_4/Si substrates using biaxially textured MgO buffer templates, grown by ion beam-assisted deposition (IBAD).

Titanium‐S23: A New Alloy with Ultra‐High Tensile Toughness Directly from the Solid‐State Processing of Recycled Ti–6Al–4V and Ti–5Al–5Mo–5V–3Cr Powders using Field Assisted Sintering Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores combining two existing aerospace titanium alloy powders, processing them via field‐assisted sintering technology and the subsequent discovery of a novel alloy composition, termed S23, with ultra‐high tensile toughness. Fine‐scale alpha precipitates favorably form in the alloy despite the relatively slow cooling, providing an ...

The growth of interest for astronomical X-ray polarimetry

open access: yes, 2018
Astronomical X-ray polarimetry was first explored in the end of the 60's by pioneering rocket instruments. The craze arising from the first discoveries on stellar and supernova remnant X-ray polarization led to the addition of X-ray polarimeters on-board

Mitigation of Cracks in High‐Performance Nickel‐Based Superalloys in Powder Bed Fusion Laser Beam of Metals Using a Metal Matrix Composite Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐performance nickel‐based superalloys are often not processible in additive manufacturing (AM) due to hot cracking. The findings in this manuscript propose an efficient method to mitigate cracking and enhance mechanical properties of these alloys by producing a metal matrix composite, contributing to the material and process perspective of the AM ...
