Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

The DEPFET Sensor-Amplifier Structure: A Method to Beat 1/f Noise and Reach Sub-Electron Noise in Pixel Detectors

open access: yesSensors, 2016
Depleted field effect transistors (DEPFET) are used to achieve very low noise signal charge readout with sub-electron measurement precision. This is accomplished by repeatedly reading an identical charge, thereby suppressing not only the white serial ...

Optical control of an atomic inner-shell x-ray laser

open access: yes, 2014
X-ray free-electron lasers have had an enormous impact on x-ray science by achieving femtosecond pulses with unprecedented intensities. However, present-day facilities operating by the self-amplified spontaneous emission (SASE) principle have a number of

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Circular dichroism in multiphoton ionization of resonantly excited helium ions near channel closing

open access: yesScientific Reports
The circular dichroism (CD) of photoelectrons generated by near-infrared (NIR) laser pulses using multiphoton ionization of excited He+ ions in the 3p(m= +1) state is investigated.

Femtosecond X-ray cross-correlation analysis of disordered crystals forming in a supercooled atomic liquid

open access: yesIUCrJ
We demonstrate an advanced scattering method for accessing the 3D reciprocal space of crystalline structures forming in a rapidly supercooled noble-gas liquid using a combination of femtosecond X-ray diffraction and X-ray cross-correlation analysis.

A split-beam probe-pump-probe scheme for femtosecond time resolved protein X-ray crystallography

open access: yesStructural Dynamics, 2015
In order to exploit the femtosecond pulse duration of X-ray Free-Electron Lasers (XFEL) operating in the hard X-ray regime for ultrafast time-resolved protein crystallography experiments, critical parameters that determine the crystallographic signal-to ...

Compression-rate dependence of pressure-induced phase transitions in Bi

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
It is qualitatively well known that kinetics related to nucleation and growth can shift apparent phase boundaries from their equilibrium value. In this work, we have measured this effect in Bi using time-resolved X-ray diffraction with unprecedented 0.25

Advances in global optimization of high brightness beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
High brightness electron beams play an important role in accelerator-based applications such as driving X-ray free electron laser (FEL) radiation. In this paper, we report on advances in global beam dynamics optimization of an accelerator design using ...

Probing Physics in Vacuum Using an X-ray Free-Electron Laser, a High-Power Laser, and a High-Field Magnet

open access: yes, 2017
A nonlinear interaction between photons is observed in a process that involves charge sources. To observe this process in a vacuum, there are a growing number of theoretical and experimental studies.
