Synchrotron‐source micro‐x‐ray computed tomography for examining butterfly eyes
Comparative anatomy is an important tool for investigating evolutionary relationships among species, but the lack of scalable imaging tools and stains for rapidly mapping the microscale anatomies of related species poses a major impediment to using ...

High-fidelity X-ray micro-tomography reconstruction of siderite-hosted Carboniferous arachnids [PDF]
A new approach to maximize data recovery from siderite-hosted fossils is presented. Late Carboniferous trigonotarbids (Arachnida: Trigonotarbida) from Coseley, UK, were chosen to assess the potential of high-resolution X-ray micro-tomography (XMT). Three-dimensional computer reconstruction visualizes the animals at 20 µm or better resolution, resolving

This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Towards quantitative demineralization imaging for the assessment of carious lesions based on PS-OCT [PDF]
Assessing the stage and progression of enamel demineralization non-invasively is of high interest in conservative dentistry. By examining tooth samples with suspected occlusal lesions, we show the potential of depolarization imaging based on polarization-

X-ray micro-tomography of Carboniferous stem-Dictyoptera: new insights into early insects [PDF]
Computer reconstructions ofArchimylacris eggintoni, a Carboniferous stem-group dictyopteran (‘roachoid’), are presented. A siderite-hosted specimen was scanned using high-resolution X-ray microtomography (µCT), and a ‘virtual fossil’ was created with a resolution of 17.7 µm.

This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Modelling particle scale leach kinetics based on X-ray computed micro-tomography images [PDF]
AbstractThe apparent leach kinetics for an ore particle within a heap leaching system depend on the chemical conditions in the fluids around the particle, the mass transport within the particle and the reaction kinetics at the surface of each mineral grain.

Dynamic micro-CT analysis of fracture formation in rock specimens subjected to multi-phase fluid flow [PDF]
In this study, fracture formation in rocks is being studied at the pore-scale through the combination of high-resolution X-ray CT scanning with custom-made add-on modules.
