Material Modification of Borofloat 33 During Scanning‐Based Microforming Using Femtosecond Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 14, 10 April 2026.
Possibilities for ablation‐free microforming of borosilicate glass using ultrashort laser pulses are presented. Depending on the laser parameters and scanning strategy, surface structures with profile heights of up to 20 µm could be produced. The work provides a comprehensive experimental and analytical characterization of the microforming process ...

Hard X‐ray polarimetry of solar flares with BATSE [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We describe a technique for measuring the polarization of hard X‐rays from solar flares based on the angular distribution of that portion of the flux which is scattered off the top of the Earth’s atmosphere.

X-Ray Spectro-polarimetry with Photoelectric Polarimeters [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2017
Abstract We derive a generalization of forward fitting for X-ray spectroscopy to include linear polarization of X-ray sources, appropriate for the anticipated next generation of space-based photoelectric polarimeters. We show that the inclusion of polarization sensitivity requires joint fitting to three observed spectra, one for each of ...

Engineering Asymmetry: How Chirality Boosts Catalysis, Spin Selectivity, and Light–Matter Interactions

open access: yesChemPhotoChem, Volume 10, Issue 4, April 2026.
This review connects chiroptical spectroscopy, asymmetric catalysis, and spintronics, revealing how chirality influences the interactions of matter with light, charge, and spin. Across diverse systems, remarkable chiroptical effects emerge, showing among others that high efficiencies can arise without absolute enantiopurity, and that functionality is ...

Polarization from the oscillating magnetized accretion torus

open access: yes, 2009
We study oscillations of accretion torus with azimuthal magnetic field. For several lowest-order modes we calculate eigenfrequencies and eigenfunctions and calculate corresponding intensity and polarization light curves using advanced ray-tracing methods.

X-Ray Polarimetry: Historical Remarks and Other Considerations

open access: yes, 2009
We briefly discuss the history of X-ray polarimetry for astronomical applications including a guide to the appropriate statistics. We also provide an introduction to some of the new techniques discussed in more detail elsewhere in these proceedings.

Hard X-ray and Soft Gamma Ray Polarimetry with CdTe/CZT Spectro-Imager

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
CdTe/CZT based spectroscopic two-dimensional (2D)/three-dimensional (3D) imagers when operated in the Compton regime can work as high performance scattering polarimeters, for high-energy astrophysics.

The imaging properties of the Gas Pixel Detector as a focal plane polarimeter

open access: yes, 2014
X-rays are particularly suited to probe the physics of extreme objects. However, despite the enormous improvements of X-ray Astronomy in imaging, spectroscopy and timing, polarimetry remains largely unexplored.

Constraining the neutron star equation of state using Pulse Profile Modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
One very promising technique for measuring the dense matter Equation of State exploits hotspots that form on the neutron star surface due to the pulsar mechanism, accretion streams, or during thermonuclear explosions in the neutron star ocean.

Characterization of x-ray detectors in the MIT x-ray polarimetry beamline

open access: yesX-Ray, Optical, and Infrared Detectors for Astronomy XI
The MIT X-ray Polarimetry Beamline is a facility that we developed for testing components for possible use in X-ray polarimetry. Over the past few years, we have demonstrated that the X-ray source can generate nearly 100% polarized X-rays at various energies from 183 eV (Boron K$α$) to 705 eV (Fe L$α$) using a laterally graded multilayer coated mirror (
