The Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) and New Directions for the Future
An observatory dedicated to X-ray polarimetry has been operational since 9 December 2021. The Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE), a collaboration between NASA and ASI, features three X-ray telescopes equipped with detectors sensitive to linear ...

Design and Tests of the Hard X-ray Polarimeter X-Calibur
X-ray polarimetry promises to give qualitatively new information bout high-energy astrophysical sources, such as binary black hole systems, micro-quasars, active galactic nuclei, and gamma-ray bursts.

X-ray polarimetry with the microstrip gas chamber
A two-dimensional microstrip gas chamber (MSGC) with a 5 cm × 5 cm detection area has been developed. It has 254 anodes and 255 back strips, both with 200 µm pitches. Using this MSGC, linear polarization of X-rays was successfully measured in the energy range 6–14 keV.

A changing-look AGN to be probed by X-ray polarimetry
Active galactic nuclei (AGN) produce the highest intrinsic luminosities in the Universe from within a compact region. The central engine is thought to be powered by accretion onto a supermassive black hole.

X-RAY AND GAMMA-RAY POLARIMETRY OF GRBS [PDF]
Polarimetry is expected to play a major role as a diagnostic tool for GRBs. Techniques and methods for X/Gamma ray polarimetry are reviewed including the specific problems related to the transient nature of the sources. Optical data do not encourage optimistic predictions on polarimetry of afterglows.

Considerations on Possible Directions for a Wide Band Polarimetry X-ray Mission
The Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) has confirmed that X-ray polarimetry is a valuable tool in astronomy, providing critical insights into the emission processes and the geometry of compact objects.

A gas pixel detector for x-ray polarimetry
Even though lacking of solid experimental verifications, X-ray polarimetry is strongly established as a deep diagnostic tool for probing the emission mechanisms in astronomical sources of high energy radiation. The recent development of new, more efficient instrumentation, as well as the renewed interest of the theoreticians, has drawn a significant ...

Obscuring circumnuclear dust is a well-established constituent of active galactic nuclei (AGN). Traditionally referred to as the receding dusty torus, its inner radius and angular extension should depend on the photo-ionizing luminosity of the central ...

Polarimetry with a soft x-ray spectrometer
An approach for measuring linear X-ray polarization over a broad-band using conventional spectroscopic optics is described. A set of multilayer-coated flats reflect the dispersed X-rays to the instrument detectors.
