The structure type ZrAl0.23Ge1.77
The new ternary intermetallic compound ZrAl0.23Ge1.77 was observed after annealing at 600°C, and its crystal structure was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction.

Prism-array lenses for energy filtering in medical x-ray imaging [PDF]
Conventional energy filters for x-ray imaging are based on absorbing materials which attenuate low energy photons, sometimes combined with an absorption edge, thus also discriminating towards photons of higher energies. These filters are fairly inefficient, in particular for photons of higher energies, and other methods for achieving a narrower ...

X‐ray bi‐prism interferometry—A design study of proposed novel hardware [PDF]
AbstractPurposeAdvances in X‐ray phase‐contrast imaging can obtain excellent soft‐tissue contrast of phase‐shift, attenuation, and small‐angle scatter. Here, we present fringe patterns for different design parameters of X‐ray bi‐prism interferometry imaging systems.

Burangaite, a new phosphate mineral from Rwanda [PDF]
This paper describes a new phosphate, burangaite, from the Buranga pegmatite in Rwanda. Burangaite is monoclinic with the idealized formula (Na,Ca)2(Fe2+,Mg)2Al10(OH,O)12(PO4)8 ∙ 4H2O, Z = 2. The crystals exhibit narrow, bladed prisms, elongated parallel

New Quaternary Compounds R3Ni0.5SiS7 (R – Y, Sm, La) with the La3Mn0.5SiS7 Structure
The new sulfides Y3Ni0.5SiS7, Sm3Ni0.5SiS7, and La3Ni0.5SiS7 exist in the quasi-ternary systems Y2S3 – NiS – SiS2, Sm2S3 – NiS – SiS2, and La2S3 – NiS – SiS2, respectively, for which the isothermal sections at 770 K were investigated.

W-Sn Mixed Oxides and ZnO to Detect NOx and Ozone in Atmosphere
Thick films of zinc oxide (ZnO) in form of nanospheres or hexagonal prisms and of tungsten-tin (W-Sn) mixed oxides at nominal Sn molar fraction (0.1, 0.3 and 0.5) were prepared.

Main properties of silicides of the Mo - Si system [PDF]
Using magnetron-ion sputtering, a layer of metallic molybdenum 1–2 μm thick was deposited on the surface of a silicon single crystal grown by the Czochralski method in an atmosphere of an inert argon gas at ambient temperature.

Zooming X-rays with a single rotation in X-ray prism zoom lenses (XPZL)
Prism arrays arranged to form a slightly open alligator mouth were found to focus incident X-rays, as with increasing distance from the object symmetry axis these rays hit an increasing number of refracting prism tips. Such an object is then formally a refractive lens. Due to the strong energy dependence of the refractive index of material for X-rays a
