Strongly Magnetized Sources: QED and X-ray Polarization

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
Radiative corrections of quantum electrodynamics cause a vacuum threaded by a magnetic field to be birefringent. This means that radiation of different polarizations travels at different speeds. Even in the strong magnetic fields of astrophysical sources,

Dose rate correction of a diode array for universal wedge field dosimetric verification

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To study the performance of MapCHECK 3 (MC3) in measuring universal wedge fields and propose a dose rate correction strategy to improve MC3 measurement accuracy. Materials and methods Universal wedge fields with different wedge angles and field sizes were measured at different depths using MC3.

Multiepoch Observations of the Nearby Spiral Galaxy NGC 3938 with the Chandra X-Ray Observatory

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present an analysis of two epochs of ACIS observations of the SA(s)c spiral galaxy NGC 3938 with the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The total exposure time of the observations was 95 ks, with a limiting unabsorbed luminosity of ≈10 ^38 erg s ^−1 assuming ...

Exploring surface‐guided systems for intelligent breathing‐adapted four‐dimensional computed tomography: A comparison to infrared‐based reflective marker systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study evaluates the technical feasibility of adapting a surface monitoring system, designed for conventional four‐dimensional computed tomography (4DCT), to an intelligent, breathing‐adapted 4DCT and examines its potential to expand the currently limited range of supported surrogate systems.

Characterization of a prototype rapid kilovoltage x‐ray image guidance system designed for a linear accelerator radiation therapy unit

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study evaluates a novel cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging solution integrated onto a conventional C‐arm linear accelerator (linac) with increased gantry speed. The purpose is to assess the impact of improved imaging hardware and reconstruction algorithms on image quality.

Introduction to Properties of Galactic X-Ray Sources [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 1988
Since the successful observation by Uhuru, the first astronomical satellite, X-ray astronomy has become one of the rapidly developing fields in astronomy.

First deep XMM-Newton observations of the LMC: Identifying LMC intrinsic source populations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2002
The first X-ray survey of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) was performed with the Einstein satellite, revealing diffuse X-ray emission from hot gas and discrete X-ray sources. The ROSAT observations between 1990 and 1998 supplied the most sensitive survey with imaging instruments in the soft X-ray band (0.1 - 2.4 keV).
