Phase-resolved spectroscopy of the accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar SAX J1808.4-3658 during the 2008 outburst [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Aims. We obtained phase-resolved spectroscopy of the accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar SAX J1808.4-3658 during its outburst in 2008 to find a signature of the donor star, constrain its radial velocity semi-amplitude (K2), and derive estimates for the ...

CCD Observations of X-Ray Binaries [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1987
AbstractDuring two observation periods in 1984 and 1985 we monitored the faint optical counterparts of seven X-ray binaries with a CCD camera attached to the Cassegrain-focus of the 2.2 m telescope at Calar Alto , Spain. The observation periods were 1984, September 25–27 , and 1985, August 8–15.The transient sources 4U0042+32 and 4U0115+63 showed no ...

Very High Energy Gamma-Rays from Binary Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This thesis presents a study of the very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray emission from X-ray binary systems using the H.E.S.S. imaging atmospheric Cherenkov array.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

TeV gamma-ray emission from accreting binary pulsars [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The high-mass X-ray binary SMC X-1 has been observed during the interval 1986-1989 at a threshold γ-ray energy of 0.4 TeV using the University of Durham Mark III air Cerenkov telescope at Narrabri.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Accretion flows in X–ray binaries

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2002
I review the X-ray observations of Galactic accreting black holes and neutron stars, and interpretions of these in terms of solutions of the accretion flow equations.
