The X-ray Outbursts of Be/X-ray Transients [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 2000
AbstractWe present a new scenario for the behaviour of Be/X-ray binaries based on long-term multiwavelength monitoring and the decretion disc model. The circumstellar discs of the primaries are truncated because of the tidal and resonant effect of the neutron star. The geometry of the systems and the value of viscosity determine the presence or absence

X-RAYS AND X-RAY DIAGNOSIS. [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1897
A great discovery, great in the sense of discovering a fundamental principle or a fact profoundly modifying existing theories or hypotheses, is not infrequently found to be of most value, from the purely utilitarian standpoint, in some branch of science, or some art, other than that in which it was primarily made.

Adherence to Protocol Recommendations for Children With Wilms Tumour in Two Consecutive Studies in the United Kingdom and Ireland—Does Variation Matter?

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Wilms tumour (WT) has excellent event‐free and overall survival (OS). However, small differences exist between countries participating in the same international study. This led us to examine variation in adherence to protocol recommendations as a potential contributing factor.

Feasibility and Preliminary Efficacy of Integrative Neuromuscular Training for Childhood Cancer Survivors: A Pilot Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) often exhibit early deficits in muscle and movement competence, which can compromise long‐term health. Integrative neuromuscular training (INT), a multifaceted approach combining fundamental movement activities with strength exercises, may help address these deficits during ...

X-ray reflection in a sample of X-ray bright ultraluminous X-ray sources [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2010
We apply a reflection-based model to the best available XMM-Newton spectra of X-ray bright UltraLuminous X-ray (ULX) sources (NGC 1313 X-1, NGC 1313 X-2, M 81 X-6, Holmberg IX X-1, NGC 5408 X-1 and Holmberg II X-1). A spectral drop is apparent in the data of all the sources at energies 6-7 keV.
