Spirolactones of xanthene. III. Formation and molecular structure of novel spirolactones of xanthene and dibenzo[c,h]xanthene

Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, 1987
AbstractThe reaction of 1‐naphthol or phenol derivatives with oxalic and sulfuric acids yielded novel spirolactones. Eight examples (2a‐h) were synthesized by this reaction. The structures of the spirolactones were established from spectral evidence and the X‐ray diffraction studies. Some of the spirolactones form the solvates with the aromatic solvent

Xanthene-Modified and Hangman Iron Corroles

Inorganic Chemistry, 2011
Iron corroles modified with a xanthene scaffold are delivered from easily available starting materials in abbreviated reaction times. These new iron corroles have been spectroscopically examined with particular emphasis on defining the oxidation state of the metal center.

Gastric antisecretory 9H-xanthen-9-amines

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1983
A series of 9H-xanthen-9-amines possessing a wide variety of nitrogen substituents at C-9 was prepared for evaluation of gastric antisecretory activity. These substituents included the acetamidine, imidate, pyrimidine, thiazoline, quinuclidine, 2-hydrazinopyridine, aminopiperidine, aminoalkylimidazole, and aminoalkylpyridine moieties.

ChemInform Abstract: Spirolactones of Xanthene. Part 3. Formation and Molecular Structure of Novel Spirolactones of Xanthene and Dibenzo(c,h)xanthene.

ChemInform, 1987
Abstract1‐Naphthol (I) or the substituted phenols (IV) react with oxalic acid in the presence of sulfuric acid to give the spiro‐γ‐lactones (III) or (V) which form solvate complexes with aromatic solvent molecules such as toluene, xylene, or nitrobenzene.

Ultrasound contrast using halogenated xanthenes

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2006
New contrast agents for ultrasound imaging and methods for use of such agents for imaging of human or animal tissue are described, wherein a primary active component of such medicaments is a halogenated xanthene or halogenated xanthene derivative. Preferably, the halogenated xanthene is Rose Bengal or a functional derivative of Rose Bengal.
