Loop optimization of Trichoderma reesei endoglucanases for balancing the activity–stability trade‐off through cross‐strategy between machine learning and the B‐factor analysis

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 15, Issue 2, Page 128-142, February 2023., 2023
A cross‐strategy combination of machine learning and B‐factor analysis was used to predict beneficial amino acid substitution in endoglucanase (EG) loop optimization. Experimental validation showed single‐site mutated EG concomitantly improved enzymatic activity and thermal properties by 17.21%–18.06% and 49.85%–62.90%, respectively, compared with wild‐

FlrA‐independent production of flagellar proteins is required for proper flagellation in Shewanella putrefaciens

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 118, Issue 6, Page 670-682, December 2022., 2022
Shewanella putrefaciens uses a simplified regulatory cascade for polar flagellar synthesis, which consists of two tiers upon induction of the flagellar master regulator FlrA. The FlrA‐independent production of early flagellar components and regulators (‘tier zero’) is required for proper flagellar counting.

Cassava diseases caused byXanthomonas phaseolipv.manihotisandXanthomonas cassavae [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, 2021
AbstractXanthomonas phaseolipv.manihotis(Xpm) andX. cassavae(Xc) are two bacterial pathogens attacking cassava. Cassava bacterial blight (CBB) is a systemic disease caused by Xpm, which might have dramatic effects on plant growth and crop production. Cassava bacterial necrosis is a nonvascular disease caused by Xc with foliar symptoms similar to CBB ...

Characterization of a foxtail mosaic virus vector for gene silencing and analysis of innate immune responses in Sorghum bicolor

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 24, Issue 1, Page 71-79, January 2023., 2023
This study demonstrates that a foxtail mosaic virus vector induces robust gene silencing in sorghum through targeting of two marker genes and a subgroup of receptor‐like cytoplasmic kinases with roles in bacterial defence. Abstract Sorghum is vulnerable to many biotic and abiotic stresses, which cause considerable yield losses globally.

Novel Thiochromanone Derivatives Containing a Sulfonyl Hydrazone Moiety: Design, Synthesis, and Bioactivity Evaluation

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
A series of novel thiochromanone derivatives containing a sulfonyl hydrazone moiety were designed and synthesized. Their structures were determined by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and HRMS.

Transcriptional regulator Sar regulates the multiple secretion systems in Xanthomonas oryzae

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 24, Issue 1, Page 16-27, January 2023., 2023
Sar, a master transcriptional regulator, regulates the type I, type III, and type VI secretion systems. Abstract Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) is a notorious plant pathogen that causes leaf blight of rice cultivars. The pathogenic bacteria possess numerous transcriptional regulators to regulate various biological processes, such as pathogenicity ...

Bacterial Spot of Tomato and Pepper in Africa: Diversity, Emergence of T5 Race, and Management

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Bacterial spot disease was first reported from South Africa by Ethel M. Doidge in 1920. In the ensuing century after the initial discovery, the pathogen has gained global attention in plant pathology research, providing insights into host–pathogen ...

HpaP divergently regulates the expression of hrp genes in Xanthomonas oryzae pathovars oryzae and oryzicola

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 24, Issue 1, Page 44-58, January 2023., 2023
HpaP is required for full virulence in Xanthomonas oryzae pvs oryzae and oryzicola, but divergently regulates the expression of hrp genes. Abstract The bacterial pathogens Xanthomonas oryzae pathovars oryzae (Xoo) and oryzicola (Xoc) cause leaf blight and leaf streak diseases on rice, respectively. Pathogenesis is largely defined by the virulence genes
