Xanthones as Potential Antioxidants

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2013
Xanthones (dibenzo-γ-pyrones) constitutes an important class of oxygenated heterocycles and occur as secondary metabolites in plants and microorganisms. They are known for various biological activities such as antioxidant, monoamine oxidase inhibitor, antihypertensive, hepatoprotective, antithrombotic, antifungal and anticancer.

Xanthones from Hypericum roeperanum

Phytochemistry, 1996
Four new xanthones have been isolated from the roots of Hypericum roeperanum. Their structures have been established by a combination of spectroscopic and chemical methods as 1,6-dihydroxy-5-methoxy-4',5'-dihydro-4',4',5'-trimethylfurano- (2',3':3,4)-xanthone (5-O-methyl-2-deprenylrheediaxanthone B), 1,6-dihydroxy-5-methoxy-6',6'-dimethylpyrano-(2',3 ...

Xanthones-A Structural Perspective

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2005
Xanthones, synthesized or isolated from a natural source, display a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities. In a few cases, their chemical characterization has involved the structure elucidation by single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Xanthone: A Promising Antimycobacterial Scaffold

Medicinal Chemistry, 2021
Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the infectious diseases associated with high rate of morbidity and mortality and still remains one of the top-ten leading causes of human death in the world. The development of new anti-TB drugs is mandatory due to the existence of latent infection as well as the expansion of the resistant Mycobacterium ...

Novel xanthones from Garcinia mangostana, structures of BR-xanthone-A and BR-xanthone-B

Phytochemistry, 1988
Abstract The chemical examination of the dry fruit hulls of Garcinia mangostana yielded, in addition to known xanthones, two new xanthones, a bis-pyrano xanthone, BR. xanthone- A and 1-methoxy-2,4,5-trihydroxyxanthone, BR-xanthone-B. Evidence of their structures is presented.

Sulfonated Xanthones from Hypericum sampsonii.

ChemInform, 2004
Xanthones, 1,3-dihydroxy-5-methoxyxanthone-4-sulfonate and 1,3-dihydroxy-5-O-beta-D-glycopyranosylxanthone-4-sulfonate, together with nine known compounds were obtained from H. sampsonii. This is the first report of sulfonated xanthonoids. Furthermore, compounds 1 and 2 exhibited significant cytotoxicity against the P388 cancer cell line.

Xanthones fromChironia krebsii

Phytochemistry, 1991
Abstract From a dichloromethane extract of the aerial parts and from a methanolic root extract of Chironia krebsii , 11 1-hydroxyxanthones and six xanthone glycosides have been isolated. The glycosides 5-hydroxy-3-methoxy-1- O -primeverosylxanthone, 1-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5- O -primeverosylxanthone, 5-hydroxy-3-methoxy-1- O -β- d -glucosyl-xanthone, 3,5,

Structure of xanthone

Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 1990

Xanthones from guttiferae

Phytochemistry, 1989
Abstract Since the last review in 1980, over eighty new xanthones have been isolated from the Guttiferae. These are listed with reference to structure elucidation and synthesis. The distribution of xanthones is examined in relation to the taxonomic divisions of the Guttiferae.
