A Review of the Occurrence of Metals and Xenobiotics in European Hedgehogs (Erinaceus europaeus)
Monitoring data from several European countries indicate that European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) populations are declining, and research exploring the causes of the decline, including exposure to potentially harmful xenobiotics and metals, may ...

Investigation of effects of two environmental heavy metals in a combined exposure model on the nervous system in rats [PDF]
In the present study, the interaction of inhalational and oral exposure to manganese and lead was investigated. Young adult male Wistar rats (2 x 10 per group) were treated orally with MnCl2 (15 and 60 mg/kg b.w.) or Pb acetate (80 and 320 mg/kg) for 3 ...

This study evaluated Bambara groundnut–wheat composite bread fortified with orange peel in diabetic rats. Diets significantly lowered blood glucose, inhibited α‐glucosidase and α‐amylase, and boosted antioxidant enzymes compared to controls. Results emphasize BG‐based functional foods' potential to help manage type 2 diabetes through regulation of ...

Do Microplastics in Soil Influence the Bioavailability of Sulfamethoxazole to Plants?
The presence of pharmaceuticals and MPs in soil raises concern due to their potential impact on plant health and ecosystem stability. This study investigates the impact of MPs on the bioavailability and phytotoxicity of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) using ...

Convergent evolution of metabolic functions: Evidence from the gut microbiomes of humans and dogs
Dogs have undergone convergent evolution in their genome with humans in long‐term co‐living. Studies have shown that the gut microbiomes of dogs exhibit greater similarity to those of humans compared to mice and pigs. In our study, we first compared the gut microbiomes of macaques, three dog groups, and two wolf groups to those in humans.

The pervasiveness of microplastic pollution poses a growing health risk, yet its long‐term metabolic consequences remain poorly defined. Here, we exposed mice to polyethylene terephthalate nanoparticle (NP) and combined histopathology, biochemistry, metabolomics, and metagenomics to resolve their interactions.

Impact of organic pollutants on phenotype and gene expression in human breast cancer cells
ABSTRACT Human exposure to industrial chemical compounds is widespread and, although often beneficial, prolonged contact may contribute to disease development, including cancer. While many studies have shown organic pollutants (OP) are cytotoxic, few have explored how long‐term exposure alters cell phenotype.

ABSTRACT Acephate is an organophosphate insecticide widely used. This pesticide can be metabolized into methamidophos, a molecule highly toxic. Both have demonstrated the ability to promote serious toxic effects on nontarget organisms and have been identified in surface waters around the world. Therefore, it is important to understand their behavior in

ABSTRACT Unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH), a highly toxic rocket propellant with known multiorgan effects, requires urgent characterization of its chronic low‐dose toxicity. Using an integrated approach including exploratory transcriptomics (n = 3/group) and metabolomic (n = 4/group) approaches in male Sprague–Dawley rats exposed to high‐dose ...
