Thermoluminescence in XLPE cable insulation

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 1996
Crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) has been employed in underground transmission and distribution cables because of its excellent electrical and mechanical properties, such as low permittivity and dielectric loss, high degree of toughness, and good flexibility.

The relation between voids in XLPE insulation and electrical breakdown strength of XLPE insulated cables

Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1975, 1975
Electrical defects in cross-linked polyethylene insulated cables (XLPE cable) such as voids and contaminants in XLPE or characteristics of XLPE such as crystallinity and microporosity have been investigated in relation to the electrical characteristics of XLPE cable. Very small defects which can be observed with a microscope are being investigated. The

A contribution to the study of aging of XLPE insulated cables

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1991
The electrical, thermal, and multiple-stress (thermal and electrical) aging of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable models has been investigated in order to get information on aging effects and mechanisms. After endurance tests, XLPE cable models have been subjected to chemical, physical, electrical, and microstructural characterization.

Development of XLPE insulated DC cable

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1994
AbstractThis paper describes the development of dc XLPE cable. Through a series of material investigations, an XLPE compound containing highly purified special filler was developed. To check the dc insulation performance of the cable insulated with this new material, a prototype cable with 9 mm insulation thickness was manufactured.

Water content of XLPE cable insulation

Conference Record of the 1992 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation, 2003
The authors deal with water absorption and diffusion in various kinds of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable insulation: steam-cured, dry-cured, and with and without water tree retardant (WTR). Measurements were performed on pieces of insulation directly or on cable specimens immersed in water at different temperatures.

Degradation of XLPE and PVC cable insulators

2015 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP), 2015
Thermal degradation mechanisms of automotive cable insulators made of PVC and XLPE matrices have been investigated by FT-IR spectroscopy. Impact of degradation at the macroscopic scale was monitored by uniaxial tensile testing and dielectric spectroscopy. It is found that elastic and fracture properties drop well before insulation properties.

Treening effects in PE and XLPE insulation

Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1972, 1972
Recent visual examination of unfilled polyethylene (PE) and cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation removed from cables which had been in service for a number of years, revealed so-called treeing patterns in some of the examined specimens.1,2 Electrical trees, originated by partial discharges, have been observed for a long time in various types of ...

Structural Design and Performance of XLPE for Cable Insulation

2021
Polyethylene’s inherent characteristics of toughness, resistance to chemicals and moisture, low temperature flexibility and excellent electrical properties, along with low cost and easy processability, make it a very desirable material for insulating low-, medium- and high-voltage electric cables.

Development of XLPE-Moulded Joint for High Voltage XLPE Insulated Cable

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1983
This paper describes the design of the cross-linked polyethylene moulded straight joint for 154 kV and 275 kV cross-linked polyethylene insulated cables, the moulding method, the characteristics of the moulded insulation, and its frist application to a long distance 154 kV XLPE cable transmission line in Japan (Toyo-Ike Line of The Tokyo Electric Power
