An orange female kitten born to a blue-and-white queen that had been mated to a tortoise-shell torn had a chromosome count of 37 and a karyotype consistent with an XO sex-chromosome constitution. The kitten lived only three days. Co-arctation of the aorta was found.

A phenotypic female with clitoral enlargement was shown by chromosomal analysis of peripheral blood leukocytes to be an XO/XY mosaic. Histologically, the intra-abdominal gonads were dysgenetic testes. Tissue cultures from 2 areas of skin, uterus and both gonads revealed mosaicism in only 2 of the sites (one area of skin and one gonad).

Teratology, 1989AbstractWe examined whether the chromosomal imbalance inherent in an XO constitution in mice is more susceptible to teratogenic influence of biotin deficiency using a newly established mouse colony with pure X monosomy.
