Transport of xylose and glucose in the xylose-fermenting yeast Pichia stipitis
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1988A low-affinity and a high-affinity sylose proton symport operated simultaneously in both starved and non-starved cells of Pichia stipitis. Glucose competed with xylose for transport by the low-affinity system and inhibited xylose transport by the high-affinity system non-competitively.

Xylose Utilisation: Cloning and Characterisation of the Xylose Reductase from Candida tenuis
Biological Chemistry, 1999Xylose reductases catalyse the initial reaction in the xylose utilisation pathway, the NAD(P)H+H+ dependent reduction of xylose to xylitol. In this work, the xylose reductase gene from Candida tenuis CBS 4435 was cloned and successfully expressed in E. coli. From the purified and partially sequenced protein primers were deduced for PCR.
