Biochemical properties of a beta-xylosidase from Clostridium cellulolyticum
Applied and Environmental Microbiology, 1995A 43-kDa beta-xylosidase from Clostridium cellulolyticum was purified to homogeneity. The enzyme releases xylose from p-nitrophenylxylose and xylodextrins with a degree of polymerization ranging between 2 and 5. The N-terminal amino acid sequence of the enzyme showed homologies with three other bacterial beta-xylosidases.

The enzyme, SXA from Selenomonas ruminantium, is the most active catalyst known for the reaction; however, its activity is inhibited by D-xylose and D-glucose (K (i) values of approximately 10(-2) M).

Biomass, 1987Abstract Three mesophilic anaerobes, namely Acetivibrio cellulolyticus, Acetivibrio cellulosolvens and Bacteroides cellulosolvens and a thermophilic anaerobe, namely Clostridium thermocellum, produced xylanase, xylosidase and esterase activities when grown on medium containing cellulose.

Russian Journal of Bioorganic Chemistry, 2000In studying the β-xylosidase production by yeastCryptococcus podzolicus (Basidiomycetes), it was shown to be an inducible secretory enzyme. Xylooligosaccharides generated from xylan and methyl β-xyloside were found to induce the β-xylosidase synthesis.

Purification and characterization of ?-xylosidase from Aureobasidium pullulans
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1991β-Xylosidase was obtained from Aureobasidium pullulans CBS 58475 with an activity of 0.35 units/ml culture filtrate. The production of the enzyme was strongly inducible. β-Xylosidase was purified in two steps by anion exchange and gel-permeation chromatography to high purity.

A β-glucosidase/xylosidase from the phytopathogenic oomycete, Phytophthora infestans
Phytochemistry, 2002An 85-kDa beta-glucosidase/xylosidase (BGX1) was purified from the axenically grown phytopathogenic oomycete, Phytophthora infestans. The bgx1 gene encodes a predicted 61-kDa protein product which, upon removal of a 21 amino acid leader peptide, accumulates in the apoplastic space.
