The sweet side of YAP/TAZ [PDF]
The reprogramming of cancer cell metabolism toward aerobic glycolysis, i.e. the Warburg effect, is a hallmark of cancer; the rationale for selecting such energy-inefficient metabolism is the need to increase cellular biomass and sustain the high proliferation rates of cancer cells.1 Metabolic reprogramming is generally considered as a phenotypic ...

Durability of Soft Pneumatic Actuators: A Review and Benchmarking Protocol
Lack of durability is a key challenge hindering the broad scale adoption of soft pneumatic actuators (SPAs) in automation industries. This review provides a comprehensive overview of existing research on SPA durability, introduces a standardized durability benchmarking protocol to consolidate the testing of SPAs, and outlines promising directions for ...

YAP/TAZ: An epitome of tumorigenesis
Mounting evidence has demonstrated that the transcriptional coactivators Yes-associated protein (YAP) and transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ), are the main effectors of the Hippo signal transduction pathway that is involved in multiple layered events in tumorigenesis.

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.

The HIPPO pathway effector YAP has been shown to be regulated by FAK-signaling. However, the existence of an inverse relationship between YAP and FAK is unknown. Here we demonstrate in hMSCs and in the human osteosarcoma derived cell line Saos that Verteporfin- or RNAi-dependent YAP depletion has opposing influence on FAK.
