Safety strategies for everyday community physical activity by adults with cerebral palsy and high support needs: A qualitative case series

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
Safety strategies used by adults with complex forms of cerebral palsy when participating in community‐based physical activity were explored in this study. Physical assistance was the main safety strategy in use, provided for four key purposes. The attributes of support people in community settings was key to experiences of safety.

Variable species establishment in response to microhabitat indicates different likelihoods of climate‐driven range shifts

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Climate change is causing geographic range shifts globally, and understanding the factors that influence species' range expansions is crucial for predicting future biodiversity changes. A common, yet untested, assumption in forecasting approaches is that species will shift beyond current range edges into new habitats as they become macroclimatically ...

Lagged climate‐driven range shifts at species' leading, but not trailing, range edges revealed by multispecies seed addition experiment

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Climate change is causing many species' ranges to shift upslope to higher elevations as species track their climatic requirements. However, many species have not shifted in pace with recent warming (i.e. ‘range stasis'), possibly due to demographic lags or microclimatic buffering.

Disentangling the Drivers of a Piscivorous Intra‐Annual Cohort and the Contributions of Three Cohorts to Early‐Year Class Strength in Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca)

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Using pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) as a model species, we investigated the factors influencing fluctuations in the abundance of piscivorous intra‐annual cohorts and assessed the role of three distinct cohorts: extremely small (ES), ordinary (or mid‐sized) fingerlings, and piscivorous in shaping year‐class strength.

Effects of Body Size and Environmental Region on the Nutritional Value of Small Pelagic Species in the California Current

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We evaluated the effects of regional environment and body size on the nutritional traits of five small pelagic species differing in habitat use, feeding behavior, and importance as prey for top predators in the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem (CCLME).
