A Microfluidic Multiplex Sorter for Strain Development

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
A new multiplex method for high‐throughput screening of yeast strains based on glucoamylase production is presented. Droplets containing single mutant yeast cells are incubated for enzyme production. A sorting platform divides mutants by their high‐ and mid‐activity levels.

Novel model for wine fermentation including the yeast dying phase [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
This paper presents a novel model for wine fermentation including a death phase for yeast and the influence of oxygen on the process. A model for the inclusion of the yeast dying phase is derived and compared to a model taken from the literature. The modeling ability of the several models is analyzed by comparing their simulation results.

Constant Enzymatic in situ Production of H2O2 for an Unspecific Peroxygenase by an l–Amino Acid Oxidase

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
Abstract Unspecific Peroxygenases have been the subject of a lot of research in the recent past as they offer opportunities for green hydroxylation reactions using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as donor. A striking problem of UPOs is their low stability against their own co‐substrate H2O2. In order to prevent the deactivation, we developed an enzyme cascade

A globally attractive cycle driven by sequential bifurcations containing ghost effects in a 3-node yeast cell cycle model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Yeast cells produce daughter cells through a DNA replication and mitosis cycle associated with checkpoints and governed by the cell cycle regulatory network. To ensure genome stability and genetic information inheritance, this regulatory network must be dynamically robust against various fluctuations. Here we construct a simplified cell cycle model for

A 3D‐Printed Microfluidic Sensor Platform for Online Bioprocess Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed microfluidic lab‐on‐a‐chip sensor platform is presented, compatible with various cultivation setups, that integrates sensors for pH, pO₂, pCO₂, glucose, lactate, and additionally features a sampling unit for small‐volume abstraction. With this platform, continuous real‐time monitoring of critical bioprocess parameters is enabled and ...

Strangers in a foreign land: 'Yeastizing' plant enzymes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Expressing plant metabolic pathways in microbial platforms is an efficient, cost-effective solution for producing many desired plant compounds. As eukaryotic organisms, yeasts are often the preferred platform. However, expression of plant enzymes in a yeast frequently leads to failure because the enzymes are poorly adapted to the foreign yeast cellular

Colonic Submucosa Targeted Delivery of Probiotic and Rhein for Ulcerative Colitis Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel orally drug‐probiotic co‐delivery system designated as Rh‐YBS for UC treatment, which highlights three innovations: (i) YPs involves colonic submucosa delivery via M cells; (ii) Rh (drug) promotes the colonization and growth of BS (probiotic) in the colon.
