Investing in yellowfin tuna: the economics of conservation [PDF]
Yellowfin tuna are harvested as juveniles by purse-seiners and as adults by long-liners. The allocation of the yellowfin stock between these two gear types can be treated as an Investment decision. A framework for making such decisions, Incorporating biological and economic considerations, is presented and applied.

Lens iso-precipitin in yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares)
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1972Abstract 1. 1. Electrophoresis has been commonly used in the analysis of nuclear eye lens extracts for intraspecific variation. 2. 2. Experiments with extracts from yellowfin tuna indicate the presence of an iso-precipitin which may provide a simpler, but equally precise method.

Bioenergetics of captive yellowfin tuna ( Thunnus albacares )
Aquaculture, 2017We utilized a unique opportunity to study the growth and bioenergetics of a highly migratory and commercially valuable marine fish under controlled environmental conditions. We maintained yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) in holding tanks throughout a twenty-year period, routinely collecting data on mass and length of individual fish over time.

Data on Dolphin, Yellowfin Tuna and Little Tuna from East Africa
Copeia, 1954of Natural History. The other two specimens are both males, one collected definitely, the other possibly, in 1931 (but no dates given), and were taken at St. Lucia and Grenada, Windward Islands, B. W. I. They are at the British Museum (Natural History). All specimens are apparently adults.

Characterization of Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares, Scombroidei) Tryptophan Hydroxylase
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1997Tryptophan hydroxylase (EC 1.14, 16.4) was purified from yellowfin tuna liver and properties of this enzyme were compared with those of tryptophan hydroxylase from some other species (mouse mastocytoma and rat brain-stem). The molecular weight of the yellowfin tuna enzyme was estimated to be about 280,000 Da.

The effect of temperature on postprandial metabolism of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares)
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2016Specific dynamic action (SDA), the increase in metabolic expenditure associated with consumption of a meal, represents a substantial portion of fish energy budgets and is highly influenced by ambient temperature. The effect of temperature on SDA has not been studied in yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares, Bonnaterre 1788), an active pelagic predator that

Muscle iridescence in yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares)
Food Research International, 2012Microscope spectrophotometry was used to investigate strong iridescence in yellowfin tuna steaks. Iridescence was restricted to the axes of transversely sectioned myofibers. Sometimes groups of adjacent myofibers all had the same iridescent colors, but colors sometimes differed between adjacent myofibers; thus, myofibers were optically isolated ...

Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) myoglobin: characterization and comparative stability
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1976Abstract 1. 1. This paper presents information on the isolation, purification, and characterization of myoglobins from yellowfin tuna, Thunnus albacares . 2. 2. Data presented include amino acid composition, isoelectric point, reactivity of histidine and sulfhydryl residues, chromatographic behavior, optical rotatory dispersion ...

Biotransformation of mercurials by intestinal microorganisms isolated from yellowfin tuna
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1981Mercury accumulated in tuna fish is mostly in the form of methylmercury (KAMPS et al. 1972, RIVERS et al. 1972, PAN-HOU & IMURA 1980). It is most probable that the accumulation of methylmercury is via the food chain. Yet, the possibility of mercury methylation in tuna fish cannot be ruled out, since we have reported that liver homogenates from some ...
