Serum Myonectin Levels Are Positively Associated With Physical Function and Lower Frailty‐Related Limitation in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Yield per recruit of the peacock bass Cichla monoculus (Spix and Agassiz, 1831) caught in Lago Grande at Manacapuru (Amazonas – Brazil)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
We evaluated the stock of peacock bass Cichla monoculus caught by a small-scale fishing fleet in Lago Grande at Manacapuru. The database was constructed by monthly samplings of 200 fish between February 2007 and January 2008. We measured the total length

Yield per Recruit and Spawning per Recruit of Brownbanded Bamboo Shark, Chiloscyllium punctatum in Southeast Asia

open access: yesYield per Recruit and Spawning per Recruit of Brownbanded Bamboo Shark, Chiloscyllium punctatum in Southeast Asia
The brownbanded bamboo shark (Chiloscyllium punctatum) is a benthic shark species distributed in Southeast Asia. The species has been listed as “Near Threatened” by the IUCN, but only based on indirect information. In this study, yield per recruit (YPR) and spawning per recruit (SPR) analyses were conducted to determine the current stock status.

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Growth, Mortality, and Yield per Recruit of Synodontis schall (Bloch and Schneider, 1801) in Roseries Reservoir, Sudan

open access: yesAsian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Research
This study assessed the population bio-parameters of shield-head catfish Synodontis schall (Bloch & Schneider, 1801) in the Roseries Reservoir (Sudan), using length-frequency data analyzed with FiSAT software. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters were determined as an asymptotic length (L∞) of 50.4 cm, and a growth curvature (K) of 0.17 yr.⁻¹ ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Age, growth and yield per recruit analysis of the pintado Pseudoplatystoma corruscans (Agassiz, 1829) in the Cuiabá River basin, Pantanal Matogrossense, Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The age and growth of the pintado Pseudoplatystoma corruscans were studied during the period from May 1994 to May 1995. The standard length ranged from 52 to 145 cm and the weight from 1.3 to 41 kg. The biometric relationship between the standard length (
