Bent‐Core Liquid Crystal‐Based Heterojunctions as Gas Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
Bilayer heterojunction devices are developed using liquid crystals and a molecular semiconductor. By employing banana‐shaped liquid crystals as a sublayer with lutetium bisphthalocyanine (LuPc2) on top, sensors sensitive to ammonia are achieved, detecting levels below 10 ppm, and as low as 2 ppm for specific devices.

Consequences and Mechanisms of Noise‐Induced Cochlear Synaptopathy and Hidden Hearing Loss, With Focuses on Signal Perception in Noise and Temporal Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Noise‐induced synaptopathy (NIS) is largely reversible due to self‐repair. NIS and noise‐induced hidden hearing loss are two concepts with similarities and differences. The major hearing deficits in NIHHL are temporal processing disorders. The translation of animal data in NIS studies to humans is hindered by many factors.

Exome Sequencing Reveals the Genetic Architecture of Non‐syndromic Orofacial Clefts and Identifies BOC as a Novel Causal Gene

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nonsyndromic orofacial clefts (NSOFCs) are the most common craniofacial defects. Exome sequencing of 214 sporadic cases sheds new light on its genetic architecture and identifies many candidate pathogenic variants. Furthermore, functional studies establish BOC as a novel causal gene and reveal an unusual two‐locus model of inheritance via the epistatic
