Revised age of proximal deposits in the Zagros foreland basin and implications for Cenozoic evolution of the High Zagros

Tectonophysics, 2008
The regionally extensive, coarse-grained Bakhtiyari Formation represents the youngest synorogenic fill in the Zagros foreland basin of Iran. The Bakhtiyari is present throughout the Zagros fold-thrust belt and consists of conglomerate with subordinate sandstone and marl.

Tectono-sedimentary framework of the Gachsaran Formation in the Zagros foreland basin

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2004
Abstract Continental collision between Iranian and Arabian plates resulted in the formation of the Zagros fold–thrust belt and its associated foreland basin. During convergence, pre-existing faults in the basement were reactivated and the sedimentary cover was shortened above two different types of basal decollement (viscous/frictional).

Distribution of Miogypsinoides in the Zagros Basin, in southwest Iran

Historical Biology, 2008
In the present study three species of Miogypsinoides are described from the Oligocene–Miocene Asmari Formation of the Zagros Basin in the southwest of Iran. This is the explanation of the morphological recognition and distribution of Miogypsinoides complanatus, Miogypsinoides formosensis (Upper Oligocene, Chattian) and Miogypsinoides dehaartii (Lower ...

Subsidence history of the Middle East Zagros Basin, Permian to Recent

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1982
The Zagros Basin is broadly defined as the palaeodepositional wedge of sediments along the present belt of the Zagros Mountains. A series of ten regional isopach maps trace the development of a portion of this basin from Permian to Recent. From the Permian to the middle Cretaceous the area occupied a position along the stable northeastern Atlantic-type

Active strike-slip faulting in the Zagros Mountains: Geological and geomorphological evidence of the pull-apart Zaribar Lake basin, Zagros, NW Iran

Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, 2019
Abstract The Zaribar Lake is situated along the Main Recent Fault, a dextral major strike-slip active fault system in the Zagros collision zone. The formation of the Zaribar Lake in Late Pleistocene is associated with the activities of the Main Zagros Reverse Fault, initiated in Late Oligocene, and with the Main Recent Fault, whose inception occurred

Middle–late Cambrian acritarchs of the Zagros Basin, southwestern Iran

Palynology, 2020
A detailed palynological study was conducted in the lower Palaeozoic of the Zagros Basin (southwestern Iran) where the Mila and Ilbeyk formations are present in several areas.
