Effect of Zirconium Diboride and Titanium Diboride on the Structure and Properties of 316L Steel-Based Composites [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2023
The effect of zirconium diboride (ZrB2) and titanium diboride (TiB2) on the microstructure as well as the physical, mechanical, and tribological properties of composites based on 316 L steel is presented. Each reinforcing phase was added to the base alloy in the amount of 5 wt% and 10 wt%. The composites were fabricated by the SPS process (Spark Plasma

Oxidation behavior of Nb-coated zirconium diboride [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Ceramic Society, 2023
Metallic Nb-coatings were deposited on top of ZrB2 by means of magnetron sputtering to improve its oxidation resistance. High temperature oxidation tests have revealed that the metallic Nb-coatings lead to the formation of a dense solid and protective reaction zone in addition to a more stable B2O3 liquid solution at the surface.
