Zona Pellucida Proteins, Fibrils, and Matrix
Annual Review of Biochemistry, 2020The zona pellucida (ZP) is an extracellular matrix that surrounds all mammalian oocytes, eggs, and early embryos and plays vital roles during oogenesis, fertilization, and preimplantation development. The ZP is composed of three or four glycosylated proteins, ZP1–4, that are synthesized, processed, secreted, and assembled into long, cross-linked ...

The Zona Pellucida “Receptors”
1997Binding of mammalian sperm to the zona pellucida and the induction of the acrosome reaction are prerequisites for successful oocyte fertilization. In the mouse model, the zona pellucida consists of three sulfated glycoproteins, ZP1, ZP2, and ZP3. Zona pellucida proteins are secreted to form a filamentous zona matrix in which ZP2 and ZP3 complex into co-

Immunogenic potency of the zona pellucida
Experientia, 1982New Zealand white rabbits were immunized with low doses of pig zona pellucida material with the aim of reducing nonspecific antibodies in the antiserum. The antibody levels were assayed by the standard precipitation and immunofluorescence methods. The titers produced were comparable with those obtained using large amounts of zona material.

Functional Morphology of the Zona Pellucida
Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia, 2001The zona pellucida (ZP) is an extracellular matrix surrounding the oocyte and the early embryo that exerts several important functions during fertilization and early embryonic development. The ZP of most mammalian species is composed of three major glycoproteins that show considerable heterogeneity due to extensive post‐translational modifications ...
