Root Apex Transition Zone As Oscillatory Zone [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
Root apex of higher plants shows very high sensitivity to environmental stimuli. The root cap acts as the most prominent plant sensory organ; sensing diverse physical parameters such as gravity, light, humidity, oxygen, and critical inorganic nutrients. However, the motoric responses to these stimuli are accomplished in the elongation region.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Spatial Distribution of Poverty Clusters and Its Prediction Algorithms: A Visual Analytics Approach to Understanding the Disparities of Poverty Across Zones

open access: yesIEEE Access
Eradicating Poverty in all its forms remains a key priority and a significant challenge in Tanzania. More than 50% of the population lives in multidimensional poverty, with urban poverty stagnating while rural poverty, though higher, is declining at a ...

Into the zone

open access: yesEnvironment and Planning A: Economy and Space
In conversation with Quinn Slobodian’s Crack-up capitalism, the commentary explores the book’s innovative but for the most part implicit methodological and expositional strategy, reflecting on some of the implications for the geographical analysis of ideas and ideation.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Identification of the plant mitochondrial OrfX protein: A mass spectrometry approach

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The mitochondrial genome of plants contains an open reading frame, orfx, which encodes a rare protein that has so far escaped mass spectrometric detection. The protein resembles the c‐subunit of bacterial twin‐arginine‐motif‐dependent protein translocases (TatC).
