Differential responses of coolwater fishes to a whole‐lake reduction of a warmwater thermal guild

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Climate change is transforming the ecology of lakes at a rapid pace, shifting some lakes toward warmwater‐dominant habitats. As a result, warmwater fishes are increasingly becoming more prevalent in lakes where they already existed, altering the patterning and strength of species interactions. Understanding shifting species interactions (e.g.,

Zooplankton and zoobenthos of the Mokra Sura river

open access: yesRibogospodarsʹka Nauka Ukraïni, 2017
Purpose. To study the spatial distribution of structural and functional indicators of zooplankton and zoobenthos during the period of maximum development of hydrobiocenosis in the contaminated and conditionally clean sites of the Mokra Sura river being ...

Zoobenthos of the Lednické rybníky ponds

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2014
Qualitative and quantitative composition of macrozoobenthos was studied on the lednické rybníky ponds. Altogether 299 taxa of benthic macroinvertebrates were determined. The values of macrozoobenthos density and biomass ranged between 5–13 021 ind.m–2 and 0.02–79.6 g.m–2 respectively.

Dietary Differentiation Between Sympatric Ecotypes of Astatotilapia calliptera From Lake Masoko (Kisiba), Tanzania Revealed by Metabarcoding

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 4, July–August 2025.
Differentiation between sympatric Astatotilapia calliptera ecotypes using dietary metabarcoding reveal presence of resource partitioning. ABSTRACT Sympatric speciation is defined as the formation of new species in the absence of geographic barriers, but the genomic and life history strategy mechanisms underpinning sympatric speciation are still far ...

Another Novel Feeding Mode in the Labridae: Juvenile Tuskfish Fan Sand With Vigorous Single Pectoral Fin Swipes

open access: yesMarine Ecology, Volume 46, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
ABSTRACT Fishes exhibit a range of feeding modes and strategies to forage in and on sand habitat. Here, we describe a novel feeding mode, whereby small juvenile baldchin groper, Choerodon rubescens (⁓65–100 mm TL), vigorously forward sweeps the benthos with a single pectoral fin to reveal small benthic prey and visually scans the immediate benthos on ...

Study on abundance of benthic macroinvertebrates in relation to soil texture types of sediment in three ponds

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agricultural Research, Innovation and Technology, 2017
The present research was conducted to evaluate the monthly variations of macrozoobenthos of three ponds (pond 1, bottom soil is loam; pond 2, bottom soil is sandy loam; pond 3, bottom soil is silty clay loam) in relation to soil texture types of sediment.

Structure and long-term dynamics of zoobenthos communities in the areas of scallop Chlamys islandica beds at Kola Peninsula

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2018
Current state of zoobenthos in the areas of scallop Chlamys islandica beds in the southern Barents Sea and eastern White Sea (Voronka) is described. The scallop stock is exploited there with the landing by specialized vessels, without separation of ...

Animal movement in space and time: the role of thermal barriers and individual variation in modulating predator–prey overlap in stratified lakes

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2025, Issue 7, July 2025.
Animal movements play a crucial role in ecosystem dynamics, regulating numerous functions from nutrient cycling to habitat coupling. Therefore, any factor modulating animal behavior (e.g. physiology and individual preferences in habitat choice) has the potential to influence ecosystem functioning.

Bulk and amino acid isotope evidence of supplementary food sources besides euphotic production for a deep-sea coral community in the South China Sea

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Deep-sea coral communities, rich in various zoobenthos, have been discovered in the South China Sea (SCS) in recent years. Yet little is known about the trophic structure of these communities.

Current knowledge of macrozoobenthos in lakes of the southern Ob-Irtys h interfluve

open access: yesTransactions of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2018
The paper presents a review of macrozoobenthos studies for lakes of the southern Ob-Irtysh interfluve (Western Siberia). Major periods of benthos studies differing in the content and goals were identified as 1) pre-revolutionary, 2) Soviet (pre-war), 3 ...
