Electron microscopy of zoosporogenesis in the marine phycomycete, Lagenidium callinectes Couch

Archiv fr Mikrobiologie, 1973
1. Zoosporogenesis and zoospore structure of Lagenidium callinectes, parasitic on ova of the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus, are studied by electron microscopy. 2. The cytoplasmic thread connecting discharging cytoplasmic units appears as a simple constricted area of cytoplasm, containing much membranous material, and bound by only the ...

The ultrastructure of mitosis during zoosporogenesis in Rhizidiomyces apophysatus

Canadian Journal of Botany, 1989
Mitotic divisions in reproductive thalli of Rhizidiomyces apophysatus, a monocentric, eucarpic hyphochytrid, were examined ultrastructurally. Mitosis is centric; each spindle pole contains two centrioles of unequal length that lie at a 108° angle relative to each other.

The Golgi apparatus, zoosporogenesis, and development of the zoospore discharge apparatus ofChytridium confervae

Experimental Mycology, 1981
Abstract C. confervae is a eucarpic, monocentric chytrid that has been cultured synchronously ( L. P. Gauriloff and M. S. Fuller, 1979 , Exp. Mycol. 3 : 3–5). In this study we use light and electron microscopy to examine the development of zoospores and the discharge apparatus, focusing on the multiple roles of the Golgi apparatus.

Functional necessity of the cytoskeleton during cleavage membrane development and zoosporogenesis inAllomyces macrogynus

open access: closedMycologia, 2004
Cleavage membrane development and cytokinesis were examined in zoosporangia of Allomyces macrogynus treated with cytoskeletal inhibitors and compared to zoosporogenesis under control conditions. Developing membranes were visualized in living zoosporangia with laser-scanning confocal microscopy using the lipophilic membrane dye FM4-64.

The effect of monensin on gametogenesis and zoosporogenesis in the aquatic fungus,Allomyces macrogynus

open access: closedProtoplasma, 1986
Cytoplasmic cleavage in the gametangia and zoosporangia ofA. macrogynus was studied using monensin, an ionophore known to disrupt several endomembrane functions in plant and animal cells. Monensin interfered with normal gamete and zoospore formation in a dose dependent manner such that at a 20 μM concentration very abnormal cells were released from the

Reticulamoeba gemmipara n. gen., n. sp., an “Amoebaflagellate” with Reticulopodia and Zoosporogenesis

Archiv Für Protistenkunde, 1994
Summary The “amoeboflagellate” Reticulamoeba gemmipara n. gen., n. sp. was isolated from samples which were collected in the littoral zone of the Greek island Thera (Santorin). It could be cultivated with the pennate diatom Amphiprora sp. as food organism. On a “lawn” of the diatoms, the amoeboid stages create clusters.

Light microscopy of meiotic zoosporogenesis and mitotic gametogenesis in Ulva mutabilis føyn

Journal of Cell Science, 1974
ABSTRACT The light-microscopical cytology of synchronized meiotic zoosporogenesis and mitotic gametogenesis in the sea-lettuce Ulva mutabilis Føyn, is described. The similarity in time course and morphological events of the 2 processes is stressed and discussed with particular reference to the use of Ulva in the biochemical study of ...

Some observations on zoosporogenesis in the female strain of Oedogonium cardiacum

Canadian Journal of Botany, 1968
Developmental cytological events in zoosporogenesis in Oedogonium have been studied in material stained with dilute solutions of acridine orange. Induction leads to isolation of successive protoplasts within the filament. Profound intracellular changes leading to zoospore formation are described and are considered to be the result of cellular ...

SPORANGIAL STRUCTURE AND ZOOSPOROGENESIS IN CHORDA TOMENTOSA (LAMINARIALES)1,2,3

Journal of Phycology, 1974
SUMMARYMembers of the genus Chorda represent the simplest form of sporophyte in the order Laminariales. The present study deals with reproduction in Chorda tomentosa, involving the initiation, growth, and structure of the sporangium and the process of zoosporogenesis.
