Microtubule organization during zoosporogenesis inAllomyces macrogynus

The microtubule cytoskeleton and cytoplasmic organization ofAllomyces macrogynus during zoosporogenesis was studied using light and electron microscopy. Indirect immunofluorescence methods revealed that the microtubule cytoskeleton progressed through three distinct stages of cytoplasmic distribution during zoospore development.

Zoosporogenesis in the oomycete,Pythium proliferum de Bary initially involves a condensation of cytoplasm at certain hyphal tips and the subsequent enlargement of these hyphal tips to form sporangia. Deposition of a septum at the base of the sporangium and initiation of an apical papilla are followed by cleavage of the sporangial cytoplasm.

Light is a crucial signal for zoosporogenesis and gametogenesis in some green microalgae

Patterns of reproduction were investigated in some microalgal species of Chlorophyceae (Botryosphaerella sudetica, Neochloris aquatica, Neochloris vigensis, Bracteacoccus minor). Under continuous light, the microalgae reproduced asexually producing autospores.

The fine structure of mitosis and cytokinesis leading to formation of zoospores in the unicellular tribophycean alga Botrydiopsis alpina Vischer has been studied by ultra-rapid cryofixation, freeze substitution, and electron microscopy. Preceding zoosporogenesis, the cell usually enlarges considerably and becomes multinucleate.

During sporulation of Pseudoperonospora cubensis on cucumber leaves ( Cucumis saliva ) zoosporangia are formed on the dichotomously branched sporangiophore. The mature zoosporangium has a preformed discharge papilla and the cytoplasm is uncleaved.

Summary The “amoeboflagellate” Reticulamoeba gemmipara n. gen., n. sp. was isolated from samples which were collected in the littoral zone of the Greek island Thera (Santorin). It could be cultivated with the pennate diatom Amphiprora sp. as food organism. On a “lawn” of the diatoms, the amoeboid stages create clusters.
