The Fungus on Zostera marina

Nature, 1934
THE fungus Ophiobolus halimus, which has recently been described as parasitic on Zostera marina L., has this summer been discovered on this plant in the British Isles. It has been found in several localities in Devon (Plymouth, Cawsand, River Yealm, Salcombe), the north coast of Guernsey and Lough Ine, Ireland. Dr. E. J. Butler has compared the British

Evidence for synonymizing Zostera americana den hartog with Zostera japonica Aschers. & Graebn.

Aquatic Botany, 1982
Abstract A numerical analysis of four species of the Zostera subgenus Zosterella was conducted to determine the taxonomic position of Zostera americana den Hartog. Results of principal components analysis support the determination that Z. americana on the northeast Pacific coast is synonymous with Zostera japonica Aschers. & Graebn.

Volatiles from Zostera marina

Phytochemistry, 1998
Abstract The essential oil from the shoots of the marine embryophyte, Zostera marina was prepared by simultaneous distillation-extraction. Volatile compounds in the oil were identified by GC and GC-mass spectrometry. The major constituents were phytol, hexadecanamide, octadecanamide, pentadecane, heptadecane, nonadecane, (8 Z , 11 Z ...

THE WASTING DISEASE OF ZOSTERA MARINA

The Biological Bulletin, 1936
At the time that this study was begun, mid-summer, 1933, an epidemic, wasting disease had almost entirely destroyed the normally dense beds of the common marine eel-grass, Zostera marina, along the Atlantic coasts of North America and Europe. Since the plant is a prominent member of the shallow water community, sheltering a variety of larval and small ...

Predation on seeds of seagrasses Zostera marina and Zostera caulescens by a tanaid crustacean Zeuxo sp.

Aquatic Botany, 2002
This paper reports the first evidence of seed predation by a tanaid crustacean on seagrasses Zostera marina and Z. caulescens in Otsuchi Bay, northeastern Japan. A tanaid, Zeuxo sp., was found to live in spathes of the seagrasses. Spathes with the tanaid were observed to have bored seeds.

Zostera: Biology, Ecology, and Management

2006
The nine species comprising the genus Zostera discussed in this chapter form a widespread and relatively well-studied group of seagrasses. Some of the earliest studies of seagrasses occurred within the genus Zostera, especially the extensively researched Zostera marina L. (Petersen, 1890, 1918). The proximity of this species to industrialized areas and
