Hydrophilous pollination and reproductive morphology in the seagrassPhyllospadix scouleri (Zosteraceae)

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 1992
In the seagrassPhyllospadix scouleri (Zosteraceae) floral aggregates (spadices) occur on short lateral axes produced by subordinate vegetative shoots. The filamentous pollen is both dispersed on the surface of the sea as well as below the surface. In surface pollination, snowflake-like search vehicles (pollen rafts) float and collide with any rigid ...

The seagrass (Zostera marina [zosteraceae]) industry of Nova Scotia (1907–1960)

Economic Botany, 1999
Wild gathering of the leaves of the submerged marine monocotyledon Zostera marina L. once formed the basis of a vigorous insulation industry in North America. Since European colonization, fishing communities used detached leaves, deposited on the beach by tide and wind, as green manure and domestic insulation, but beginning in the late 1800s, these ...

Cyclic diarylheptanoids deoxycymodienol and isotedarene A from Zostera marina (Zosteraceae)

Tetrahedron Letters, 2019
Abstract A first phytochemical investigation of apolar natural products of the seagrass Zostera marina L. (Zosteraceae) yielded cymodienol, a cyclic diarylheptanoid so far only known from the seagrass Cymodocea nodosa (Ucria) Asch. (Cymodoceaceae) and a previously undescribed diaryheptanoid, isotedearene A, which is closely related to tedarene A,

Population genetics of Zostera marina Linnaeus (Zosteraceae) based on AFLP analysis

Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, 2012
Abstract The genetic relationship of Zostera marina was analyzed by AFLP marker. A total of 235 bands were detected from 63 individuals by 6 primer combinations, of which, 160 (68.09%) loci were polymorphic. The highest Nei's gene diversity value (H) and Shannon's information index value (I) were detected in population Clare (H = 0.072, I = 0.115),

Fruit anatomy, seed germination and seedling development in the Japanese seagrass Phyllospadix (Zosteraceae)

Aquatic Botany, 1990
Abstract Phyllospadix iwatensis Makino and Phyllospadix japonicus Makino have similar fruit morphology and anatomy. The rhomboid fruit of Japanese Phyllospadix is dark brown in colour and is characterized by two arms bearing stiff inflected bristles which can act as an anchoring system.

Potamogetonaceae, Zosteraceae, and Cymodoceaceae

2002
The three families of sea-grasses are treated together here, with a general introduction by Den Hartog and a key to the sea-grass genera. An extensive chapter on phytochemistry by R. Hegnauer (Leiden) has been included. Potamogetonaceae, pp. 174—196. The family comprises 3 genera and c.
