The Role of Complement and IgG in Zymosan Opsonization
International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 1981Zymosan particles require opsonization for optimal interaction with granulocytes and activation of their respiratory burst, In the present study we evaluated the serum factors necessary for zymosan opsonization. First, zymosan was treated with either normal serum or hypogammaglobulinemic serum (HGS), which is deficient in immunoglobulins (Ig) but has a

Phagocytosis of zymosan particles by mast cells

The role of properdin in murine zymosan-induced arthritis
Molecular Immunology, 2010Using properdin-deficient and wild-type mice, we have investigated the role of properdin in development and progression of zymosan-induced arthritis. At the initial phase of local, zymosan-induced inflammation, properdin-deficient and wild-type mice showed bone erosion, proteoglycan loss and cell infiltration. Compared to wild-type, properdin-deficient

Zymosan-induced inflammation stimulates neo-adipogenesis
International Journal of Obesity, 2007To investigate the potential of inflammation to induce new adipose tissue formation in the in vivo environment.Using an established model of in vivo adipogenesis, a silicone chamber containing a Matrigel and fibroblast growth factor 2 (1 microg/ml) matrix was implanted into each groin of an adult male C57Bl6 mouse and vascularized with the inferior ...

Zymosan-induced bacterial translocation
Critical Care Medicine, 1992At nonlethal doses, zymosan induces a systemic inflammatory state and promotes bacterial translocation. This study was performed to investigate the mechanisms by which zymosan causes intestinal mucosal injury and bacterial translocation. Bacterial translocation to the mesenteric lymph node was measured 24 hrs after intraperitoneal challenge with saline

Injections of zymosan in mouse and rat paws provoke inflammatory reactions, the kinetics of which are different. In both models, inflammation occurs at an early stage but oedema is maximal at 30 min in rat paw and 6 h in mouse paw. In this study the two reactions have been studied up to 6 h.

Exocytosis of zymosan particles by human phagocytes
Scandinavian Journal of Haematology, 1984The kinetics of human leucocyte phagocytosis and exocytosis of fluorescein‐isothiocyanate (FITC)‐labelled zymosan particles were studied by flow cytometry (FCM). The leucocytes rapidly associated with zymosan particles, and internalization was confirmed by a fluorescence quenching technique.

Spondyloarthritis features in zymosan-induced SKG mice
Joint Bone Spine, 2018Spondyloarthritis (SpA) encompasses a group of disorders including ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, and enteropathic arthritis. SpA pathogenesis is still not well understood. Animal models are important for studying disease mechanisms and identifying new therapeutic agents. Recently, a β-glucan-induced SKG mouse was used

Zymosan: induction of sickness behavior and interaction with lipopolysaccharide
Physiology & Behavior, 2003The yeast particulate zymosan (Zy) activates innate immune system cells and induces cytokine secretion. There is also evidence that Zy can affect biologic responses to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and that the pathways by which these two agents act upon immune cells are only partially distinct.

Thermal Response to Zymosan: The Differential Role of Complement
Neuroimmunomodulation, 2002Objectives: This study was designed to determine whether the complement (C) system may be involved in the febrile response to zymosan (Zym), a glycan derived from yeast cell walls. Methods: Cobra venom factor (CVF) at 100 U/animal or its vehicle, pyrogen-free saline (PFS), was injected intravenously (i.v.) into ...
