CXCR2 deficient mice display macrophage-dependent exaggerated acute inflammatory responses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
CXCR2 is an essential regulator of neutrophil recruitment to inflamed and damaged sites and plays prominent roles in inflammatory pathologies and cancer. It has therefore been highlighted as an important therapeutic target.

Effect of Zymosan on Endotoxin Toxicity in Mice.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1959
SummaryZymosan renders mice highly susceptible to the lethal effect of endotoxin at a time when activity of the R.E.S. is greatly stimulated. This effect is similar to that following B.C.G. infection. Pretreatment with cortisone abolishes nearly completely the increased toxicity to endotoxin caused by zymosan or B.C.G. infection.

Anti-atherogenic properties associated with the antioxidant activity from the hydrophilic extracts of Halimeda incrassata (Chlorophyta, Bryopsidales) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Seaweeds are a source of natural antioxidants having potential application in oxidative stress and associated diseases. In this work, anti-atherogenic properties associated with the antioxidant activity from the hydrophilic extracts of Halimeda ...

Riboflavin: The Health Benefits of a Forgotten Natural Vitamin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Riboflavin (RF) is a water-soluble member of the B-vitamin family. Sufficient dietary and supplemental RF intake appears to have a protective effect on various medical conditions such as sepsis, ischemia etc., while it also contributes to the reduction ...

Anti-inflammatory protein TSG-6 secreted by activated MSCs attenuates zymosan-induced mouse peritonitis by decreasing TLR2/NF-κB signaling in resident macrophages.

open access: yesBlood, 2011
Human mesenchymal stem/progenitor cells (hMSCs) repair tissues and modulate immune systems but the mechanisms are not fully understood. We demonstrated that hMSCs are activated by inflammatory signals to secrete the anti-inflammatory protein, TNF-α ...

Paradoxical Activation of Entheseal Myeloid Cells by JAK1 and TYK2 Inhibitors via IL10 Antagonism

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Background JAK inhibition (JAKi) is effective in seronegative spondyloarthropathy (SpA) spectrum disorders, but TYK2 inhibition failed in SpA spectrum ulcerative colitis, and tofacitinib showed minimal benefit in Crohn's Disease, which highlights the complex role for JAK‐STAT signaling in different inflammatory processes. In this study, we investigated

Oral administration of curcumin (Curcuma longa) can attenuate the neutrophil inflammatory response in zymosan-induced arthritis in rats.

open access: yesActa Cirurgica Brasileira, 2014
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of curcumin in the acute phase of zymosan-induced arthritis. METHODS Twenty-eight male rats were subjected to intra-articular infiltration of zymosan of both knees and, in four the infiltration was made with saline.
