Factors influencing the utilization of ketone bodies by mouse adipose tissue

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1966
Factors influencing the utilization of ketone bodies by mouse adipose tissue in vitro were studied. Epididymal fat pads can oxidize dl-Β-hydroxybutyrate-3-14C and acetoacetate-3-14C to 14CO2 as well as convert these compounds to fatty acid-14C.

Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate in staphylococci [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1992
Staphylococci--chemoorganotrophic bacteria whose main habitats are human and animal organisms--can accumulate poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) in their cells. The polymer is metabolized in endogenous turnovers preceding degradation of aminoacids, proteins and RNA. PHB depolymerase was not found in staphylococci but beta-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase was

An investigation of the metabolism of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate and its possible role in nitrogen fixation in soybean root nodules [PDF]

open access: yes
A major objective of this investigation was to determine the possible roles, if any, of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate and products of its metabolic breakdown in symbiotic nitrogen fixation by nodule bacteroids.

Hepatic Ketogenesis Induced by Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion in Mice

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2017
BackgroundKetone bodies are known to substitute for glucose as brain fuel when glucose availability is low. Ketogenic diets have been described as neuroprotective. Similar data have been reported for triheptanoin, a fatty oil and anaplerotic compound. In

Producing poly-β-hydroxybutyrate from local isolates of risobium bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesمجلة التربية والعلم, 2014
In this study, five isolates of Sinorhizobium meliloti were obtained from root nodules of alfalfa plants collected from agricultural soils of different regions of Nineveh governorate/Iraq.

Structural aspects of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate granules [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1992
Conventional electron microscopic preparation and imaging techniques applied to the study of the ultrastructure of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) (and related compounds) inclusion bodies provided information on cytological aspects such as shape, dimensions, and location of these inclusion bodies within cells harvested from various growth conditions and ...

Biosynthesis of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) is controlled by CydR (Fnr) in the obligate aerobeAzotobacter vinelandii [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2001
CydR is an Fnr-like protein in the obligatory aerobic nitrogen-fixing bacterium Azotobacter vinelandii. The cydR mutant overproduces the cytochrome bd terminal oxidase. Using two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, we showed that beta-ketothiolase and acetoacetyl-CoA reductase were also overexpressed in the cydR mutant.

β-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase decorated MXene nanosheets for the amperometric determination of β-hydroxybutyrate

open access: yes, 2020
MXene nanosheets of type Ti3C2Tx were modified with β-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase and then used as a biosensor for amperometric sensing of β-hydroxybutyrate.

Effects of Lipolytic and Antilipolytic Agents on Glycerol and Free Fatty Acid Release from Isolated Adipocytes of Normal and Diabetic Rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
1989-03Isolated adipocytes from severely diabetic rats exhibited hypersensitivity to epinephrine at low concentrations (0.05-0.1μM) on lipolysis, compared with isolated adipocytes from normal and mildly diabetic rats. Hypersensitivity to dibutyryl cyclic

Effect ofVitreoscillahemoglobin biosynthesis inEscherichia colion production of poly(β-hydroxybutyrate) and fermentative parameters [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2002
In order to attain high cell density and low cost production of poly(beta-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB), the Vitreoscilla globin gene (vgb) was introduced into a novel recombinant strain, Escherichia coli VG1 (pTU14). Experiments showed that the expression of vgb was under the regulation of dissolved oxygen (DO) in broth and the introduction of vgb in VG1 ...
